Members akapuli
His basic tone was almost always Mesa, especially the Rectifier serie.I read somewhere he bought Vai's Eventide, hence the special moments on the Time's Up LP.

Members guitarbilly74
At that time he was using a Mesa Quad pre/295 set up with a {censored}load of effects. Hamer and ESP guitar with EMGs. That's the classic LC tone. He also used a MP1 / VHT 2150 monster rack for quite a while.
Members Apep
In February of 1981 who was the best guitarist in the world? In 1979 it was Eddie VH, in 1981 Randy would smoke his ass any stage, any time, anywhere. Doesn't mean his tone was good:cop: Jimi Hendrix kicked all sorts of guitar ass but I still think his tone isn't great

Members Cougar Hunter
Billy, that rig is definitely pre'93. His '94-'9? rig was much simpler than the 3 refrigerator rig.: triaxisGSP2101Mesa amp switcherLexi Jam ManEventide HarmonizerLexicon PCM multi fx unitMesa simul 2:90 cabs = whatever the venue gave him to use. This was from the '94 GW buyer's guide.

Members Digital Jams
Saw them 3-4 times in the 80s, those guys were the tightest 80s band out there by a mile. Great musicians and Glover had the best pipes live I had ever heard. Met Vernon at NAMM, very cool guy to speak with.

Members pamackie
mid 90's rig That must have been taken during his brief and little-known time filling in for The Edge. [/joking about fridges]
Members illinismitty
yeah, that solo in Cult of Personality sucks hard. He came up with cool riffs, but soloing on those LC albums are for the most part- terrible. I saw Corey Glover live a few years back, and his guitarist had 10 times more taste, technique, and feel when it came to soloing.

Members Dave Owens
Cult of Personality solo is absolutely everything that is wrong with guitar playing. Tasteless bullshit fuck of a piece of noise that was.
Members Floortom
The Cult of Personality solo is fantastic. He was going for a very frenetic sound and he nailed it. SRV style pentatonic wanking wouldnt have worked in that song.Anyone who thinks that he was not going for that specific sound (ie. was picking faster than he was technically capable of) has not seen him live. Members iNx
The solo from Cult of Personality inspired me to play guitar. He was the greatest expressionist in pop culture to me, at that time. Got to meet him in 92 with Teenie Hodges. It was epic!
Members reddt1
In my opinion, the solo in Cult of Personality sucks. The main riff is great though.
Members madryan
Reid is a jazz guy at heart. To really get it you needed to see them live. I never liked their recorded stuff but live they f-ing tore it up.

Members ComOp
The times I've heard him it sounded like a wall of Gorillas pushed by a Metalzone. This, totally this.... I'd say he had a chain of metal zones. Dimed.
