For me the bands that make some of the heaviest riffs are Gojira, them, Morbid Angel and Fear Factory. I can't consider grindcore or tech death "heavy" for me. They add to the heaviness of the music, no more no less. Because of the slow palm muted riffs, tempo, double bass, and the chant at the end is like a hammer to the {censored}ing head.
