Members xmorgan socialx
my band is going to Canada tomorrow to play a couple of shows in BC. With all of this Lacey act talk, I am a tiny bit concerned about taking my Les Paul with me... Would you even think twice about it? Any horror stories out there about confiscated guitars at driving borders?

Members xmorgan socialx
It is your stupid government you need to worry about. That's what I meant... was bringing it back, I should have clarified. I've taken nice guitars to Canada many times, but it's been a few years and I'm reading things that make me question it
Members Reauchambeau
if you were Canadian I'd say no don't even try. you're a US citizen, it would be bizarre if US customs messed with you on your way back.
Members TravM
I believe my guitars are in the clear (ibanez RG's) so yeah I'd be ok with it. You should be fine

Members TravM
I read the OP, I still think you'll be fine. I'm assuming you guys aren't an international act as well as boarder patrol probably not caring...I agree there still is risk involved, but I'd do it *shrugs*
Members STRANDMAN
I'm a French Canadian from Minnesota. As long as it's not something like whiskey, beaver pelts, or an Algonquin bride you'll be fine.

Members STRANDMAN
I've never done it so please forgive my ignorance but can't you declare your LP as personal property with U.S. customs when you leave so that there is no hassle when you return? Cheers, Lucius I honestly don't know what venues we are playing, but we are playing in Vancouver and Victoria. I know the Victoria show is a house show at our friend Troy's place... We are only playing all ages shows and we have paperwork, so there will be no issues with crossing into Canada.

Members Zeppelin Rules
From what Gibson has put out on the matter it doesn't seem like it's going to be an issue. Also, if your guitar has an Ebony board you should be fine. They're really only worried about rosewood right now.

Members squinty
I hear they strip the Brazilian Rosewood from the necks of guitars and build tree sculptures out of them... Blame Canada!
Members Johnny Two Tone
^I know it's just kidding around but what does Canada have to do with this issue? Let me rephrase that: DOES this problem have anything to do with Canada? From what I understand the only problem that exists concerning guitars is USA guitar makers using one piece Brazilian Rosewood fretboards. Canada doesn't have that problem. In fact, I just this week went to a wood place, if you will, to get rosewood. It's rare sizing wise because, according to the shop dude, it just recently became legal to sell freely in Canada (by freely I assume he means the circumstances of how it's sold changed). Members Elter
Hold on, color me ignorant here, but why is there an issue with rosewood, or any other kind of material in any given guitar, crossing the border? My band was planning on touring the states and, due to lack of tour-visa we have decided to stay in Canada this year and try again next year when we have a better footing as far as legality goes. This throws a whole new curveball in the mix. What, exactly, is going on at the borders?
