Members toprekoms
Hello All, I'm new to these parts, but I noticed a Kasino amp being sold in the classifieds. I just picked up a '73 Kasino 400 with (8) 10's for 100.00! The amplifier section looks and sounds new. The cabinet was a mess, so I'm restoring it. I've done many amps in the past, but never a Kasino. Is the vertical multi-stripe grille cloth and silver piping available? does anyone know what speakers were originally loaded in this monster? It's got Pyle Drivers in it now and they sound terrible. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Members WRGKMC
My old Bass player used a kasino bass amp back in the 70s. It had 2X15" speakers in it but I have no idea what kind of speakers they were. Likely Eminance or some other no name. The amps werent great and I worked on him for years to upgrade. I eventually sold him an SVT and a Kustom head. The head still wasnt great but the cab made it sound much better.

Someone tries to help and you wish to do a spelling lesson? Go back in you room and play with your blocks. I believe this came with Eminence speakers. Members WRGKMC
Wow. He makes a post about a rare amp Kustom made without the tuck and roll that likely noone else at HC has ever heard before no less gigged with for 10 years and he calls me a snob? Like I said My old bass player still has his from the 70s, and Its still not a super amp and nothings going to change that. No transistor amps made in the 70s were. My memories of the speakers before I googled it was they were black, and had no manufacturers name on them. What would you guess? The speaker were crappy sounding too. They had Alluminum dust caps on them. That was what the budget manudacturers did to copy Altecs and JBL's to give that cloned look but totally missed it on sound quality. Earley eminance speakers are not the speakers you buy today either. They were bottom of the barrel budget speakers a bunch of low end amps used and basically came in two types. One with a round magnet and one with a square. I just googled up the info from the Kustom site now and they used KEI speakers in them. http://www.kustom.com/product_detail.aspx?TypeID=9&FamilyID=111&ProductID=185 KEI stands for Kustom Eminance Intergrated. Pretty G/Dam good guessing for a snob who cant spell. And I'll be first to admit I dont type well either. Good luck on finding a match for your grill cloth too. Zuit suit silver stripes on black isnt exactly a hot commodity these days.

Members wikwox
Also played with a bass player using a Kasino bass amp back in the late seventies, just the head, different cab. We thought it was a lesser model of the Kustom amps (hey, we were young). We also ragged on him to get a different amp.
Members chugheshc2
haa.I had a Kasino amp as my first! Many, many, trips back to the shop replacing blown output transistors. On the good side, I became friends with the bench tech (cool dude liked teaching and played saxophone in a super serious cover band).Good luck with the reupholstering, not sure what is up with the vitriol.CheersC>

Members Belva
Nice start! Wondering what post #4 will be like ... someting like BANNED? Some people have a fixed idea in their head and don't want to hear it when they're forced to abandon that idea. Obviously the case here. I don't think there will be a post #4. He needs to find a forum where he'll be molly coddled. Ain't gonna happen here.

Members scott4est
I too just acquired the same amp but everything is original and it was purchased from the original owner. It's supposed to be a '72 but the original owner couldn't remember for sure. He also told me Tom Petty LOVED these things, FWIW. Anyhow, based on my experience, this thing sounds incredible. One of the best clean, solid state amps I've ever heard. Especially with all the speakers. If you're looking for a hard rock or metal solution, this probably isn't the amp for you, although it can get SUPER loud. If you want an amazing clean sound, this will definitely do it. I picked it up for $80, as a gamble because I was unfamiliar with the brand. I figured worse case, I'd probably resell it and get my money back. Now however, I've decided to keep this thing. My Kemper Profiler is definitely still my main amp but this one is really enjoyable to play through. Only downside is it's huge, but then again if it wasn't, it probably wouldn't sound as good. The only thing it needs is the bulb for the power light to be replaced. I haven't opened it up because I don't want to mess anything up. Anyone know how to replace the bulb easily? Members Thoma Faur
To the fellow that made the comment there were no good solid state bass amps in the 70’s, I can only say I’m not sure what country your from but I’m guessing you have to walk a ways to fetch water. Acoustic 360/361 is one of the two most iconic bass amps of the twentieth century and yes I it was Solid State..

It was - I used to play through an Acoustic 360 head that our high school owned back in the late 1970s. I also had a Kasino Club L2 at one point - the 4x10 combo version. IIRC, it was about 60W (100W peak) and was quite loud. I believe they were made by Kustom. BTW, welcome to Harmony Central!
