Members Amanda-Jane
A quick question.. Fingerprints.I don'tlike them. I use a polishing cloth..a clean one, and try and rub off the prints, this just makes smudges. And doggy nose prints...eww Is there something to do or use to keep the shine on the finish of your guitar?
Members rjoxyz
I use only microfiber cloths. The best polish/cleaner I have found is Lizard Spit (honest). Easy on and off. No build up and no silicones.
Members daklander
Usually Lemon or Orange oil with a soft cloth. Nothin' wrong with doggy nose prints. It means your dog is a music lover.
Members kwakatak
My main guitar has a satin finish so unless I've eaten something greasy or used some lotion before playing there's no muss, no fuss. My beater acoustic has a gloss finish but is dinked and cracked so a few fingerprints don't bother me. if something's caked on there (which is inevitable because I've got little kids) then I just dampen a paper towel and wipe it off. My main electric has a clear coat and the wood underneath is ash, which has a very high-contrast grain so again, no problem with fingerprints there. My backup electric never gets played because it has bad pots and even though it's really dusty I could care less.
Members denvertrakker
+1 on Lizard Spit. The other polish that I've used is Dunlop 65. It seems to leave less residue than Lizard Spit, but if the git is really grungy LZ does a better job. YMMV. This all applies to glossy finishes; if your git is satin, a moistened microfiber is better. That's all I ever used on my ex-Cort.
Members MattSkibaIsGOD
Dunlop 65 for me, but I only have one guitar with a gloss finish, so I usually just rub the guitars down with a polishing cloth after I play.

Members OldGuitarPlayer
There really is no need for polish...just a damp cloth will generally wipe off any fingerprints I only use a small amount mineral oil on rosewood fingerboards about once a year to "mositurize" them.
