An incredible deal. Best one on the net
:)

Hi,

Thanks for participating. However, I'll share my opinion that $780 for a repaird Martin 000C-16GTE with significant visual blemishes on the front is not the best deal on the net. :) You *might* get that on Ebay if someone really wants it. However, the fact that you haven't had any bites yet is probably enough of a clue:

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/998718926.html

Here is a like-new, undamanged DC-16GTE that has one bid for $800 (folks should track this to get an idea of what these are worth). It should end for under $1000:

Good luck with your guitar -- I hope you sell it, but you may consider lowering the price to around $550 and see if you get any bites. Also, you could just try a straight, no-reserve auction on Ebay starting at $0.01 and let the market decide. :)

Again, good luck.

p.s. I think it is impressive that a used Martin will command almost 2/3 of its original selling price (in mint condition). Usually, you are looking at 50% or less.

From a quick search the OOOC16GTE does cost a few hundred more than the DC.
At $550 its a keeper. At $750 its a discounted, broken in great player. There are folks that are unfortunate enough to dump good guitars for cheap. I know, I have bought a few. So, my price is sincere, just not desperate. I'll end up trading it if I don't sell. (I likre the guitar alot. The guy I got it from was not forthcoming with the condition it arrived in. It was part of a multi guitar deal that I wish had gone better. So me and the Martin , as nice as it plays, have never friendlied up. I just hope to find someone interested in performance that figures why mess up a new guitar giging.
BTW Isn't the EN546CE the goods! Like all Masterbuilts I treat it with kid gloves. But what a nice playing guitar. I love the tuner set up in the electronics. Theres a deal or non deal folks should look for. Looks like they have been completetly discontinued.

Hope this post is alright.

I know the seller of this guitar and the guitar itself, a Takamine Hirade TH5 (the one with electronics and no cutaway). He bought it shortly after it arrived at our local shop in the fall of 2008 and, yes, it is as good as you would expect a Takamine TH5 to be. Yes, it's mint and he's asking for $1175. Feel free to contact him.

He unfortunately bought a couple of other high-end steel-strings in a fit of GAS. He now needs to sell the TH5.

I'm posting it here because I feel a little guilty. I introduced him to one of those steel-strings (a custom Martin OM-21) at Schoenberg's Guitars. :freak:

Hi,

Thanks for posting. However this post would be better located in the "For Sale" forum. Now, if he were selling it for $750, this thread would be more appropriate. :)

Well, they sell for $1599 new.

I think $1175 is a great price on one in mint condition. Especially considering a forum member can vouch for the condition of the guitar.

I haven't seen these sell for over $900 on Ebay, but I haven't looked into it that much. I saw one locally on Craigslist that continued to drop (the add disappeared sometime after the price dropped below $800). My guess is that it won't sell for $1175, but my guesses have been wrong before. :)

I would love to find a 3 month old, mint condition Takamine Hirade TH5 for less than $900. That is nearly 50% below their new street value.

Craigslist is a good place to buy a guitar but a terrible place to sell one. It's also a good place to get scammed or robbed.

At least it's safer than Ebay! ;)

Seriously though, if you think this is a great deal, you should jump on it. However, again, I don't think it is going to sell for that price. If you track Ebay sales of these, you will probably see what I am talking about.

In particular, one of the most important things to realize is that guitar warranties are not transferable. So, it really doesn't matter if the guitar is 3 months old or 3 years old. You won't be able to get it fixed for free if something goes wrong with it. As soon as you walk out of the store with that new guitar, boom, you've lost 50% (or more)*.

Anyway, I wish lots of luck to the seller, and hey, I've got no skin in the game and am neutral as to how much it sells for. I'm just sharing my opinion.

* With a high-end martin, you might only lose 35%-40% when you walk out the door.

Here is a mint condition, in-store demo Takamine TH5 (probably considered new, with warranty) for $999:

http://www.massmusic.net/shop/?shop=1&itemid=20506

They sell for $1549 new (I would guess you could get them to knock $100 off for you to $1449):

http://www.billsmusiconline.com/takth5.html

About 50% of that would be around the $750 that I mentioned. I almost pulled the trigger on the $800 mint condition Craigslist one that I mentioned, but I already have a Takamine C132S, and I couldn't justify the purchase (now that I think about it, the price may have dropped to $600, but it was a while ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy).
