Jeff Beck at #14? I am willing to bet Jeff Beck has had guitar techs better than some of the guys ranked above him on that list. EVH at #70? Give me a break........... When I look at that list it is obvious it was made by people that don't play guitar or understand music. I like their magazine, I wish they would stop with the top 100 list crap.

And it just so happens that Eddie cites them as his two biggest influences Yeah, I read that a few times. I voted YES in the poll just because I thought the vote YES or vote YES option was funny. In all seriousness, I'm the kind of guy that has trouble picking a single favorite anything or declaring something the best. Hell, I don't even have a favorite color or a favorite food. With that said, EVH is definitely one of my all-time favorite players. I consider him to be one of the greatest ever. Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, SRV, Page, Rhoads, EVH, Satch, Gilmour, Yngwie and Lynch are my Top 10.......the order can change by the hour or day depending on who I listened to most recently.

I never did care for Van Halen very much. Perhaps the whole dumbass party-boy vibe they personified killed it for me, but at any rate I'm only now really listening to his stuff. That said, I still can't stand the stupid lyrics and their videos make me slightly ill... It sounds like you are talking more about the band and not Eddie as a musician. I agree, the band Van Halen will never be known for songs with well crafted messages. They were always a party band. Eddie is the only reason why I am a Van Halen fan. His playing makes the band for me.

Guys in their 20's and early 30's have no idea how big Eddie was after the first Van Halen album. He blew everyone away because there was nothing like it before. His tone and skill caught the attention of players and non players alike. His impact on young players in the late '70's and '80's was huge. He influenced a generation of players. I can only think of 2 other players with the type of impact Eddie has had: Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. People in this thread keep using past tense - "Eddie was" - The guy still is one of the best.

As many here know, I have never cared for him albeit subjective. He did nothing to inspire or influence me and I found he had a negative effect on guitar playing. Example, he had a profound influence on people playing for speed with machine gun shredding without feel. Not that he didn't have feel but his playing influenced that genre. I disagree. Eddie was and never will be a shredder. He inspired a generation of players to dive bomb, uitilize harmonics and tap. I think of Blackmore and Randy Rhodes when I think of early shredders.

Howdy Jake. Good info. However, like Deepend I seem to recall a Bently budget line prior to '83. Possibly 'Bentley'? Sounds like your info hits the OP's guitar on the head though. Jake is correct. My first guitar was a Bently Series 10 electric guitar. I bought it from a mom and pop store that sold all of the SLM guitars and amps.

There is no advantage to doing that with an acoustic guitar. It would be a great way to rip the bridge off.

I would leave the stock nut alone. The nut has very little to do with the tone of the guitar. It's not worth the hassle or expense to change it.

I'm with Terry. Pinless bridges will drive the top differently than a pinned bridge. A pinned bridge has the advantage of placing more downward pressure on the saddle.

It looks like an Ibanez AW800 - I know the Ibanez AW800 is all solid wood. There is a good chance both brands are made by Cort.

well the problem is like he said he is the second owner, warranties usually dont transfer. Martin is not a typical company that looks to avoid warranty work. If it's a workmanship problem on their end, I say they will probably fix it for free.

I think Martin will repair it under warranty because it is an obvious factory defect.

I played one a few months ago. I really liked it a lot. I didn't realize they were hard to find.

Out of curiosity I ordered and received a Zager 80 and at the same time I received a used Larrivee D 05. The Zager played easy and sounded clear. I played the Larrivee and it sang. For about the same money, the Larrivee was hands down the better guitar in sound and build. The Zager was sent immediately back. No questions asked I received my full money back from Zager. Zager warranty and service A+ a serviceable guitar but expensive for what is out there and a C to C+ on Value to Sound. (First purchase of a guitar in 20 years, rookie player, first post) Cheers.
