Members Sty1es
Hey guys. I just recently had the opportunity to work at a great studio. Took pics throughout the 2 12-hour blocks we had, along with everything else you can imagine, on someone else's tab http://www.putfile.com/ohads{censored}/images Lots and lots of great gear to use, I can go into details if anyone's interested, but the pics say alot

Phil O'Keefe
Nicely equipped room. Looks like they have some cool stuff in those racks... I'd love to have those GML's... and a few of the other goodies I saw. Just out of curiousity, did you / they use the NS10's or the ADAM's more often? I'd say it was split down the middle. Every speaker used equally as a reference to each other. The NS10s are positioned in an interesting way, kind of a psuedo-mono thing. Gives a real interesting perspective on your mix. The ADAMs were pretty nice, although to tell you the truth were not as great as I remember them being. They're incredibly clear, but the low end is hard to hear. I'm a big NS-10 fan, especially if they're paired up with a nice subwoofer and crossover. Oh yeah, those GMLs... We used them to do our final bounce to tape (tape!! )
Phil O'Keefe
So, you did the mixdown to the Ampex?

Oh yeah Tracking into protools, mixing on the SSL and outboard, mixdown to tape, and then dumped back onto the computer and a dedicated cd burner. Had to see which converters were better, the Apogee into the CD burner, or the 192i/os running into the computer.

But as I've mixed on them, I've found that even though they're not as seemingly bassy as my other monitors, I seem to be able to get the bottom end to translate better on the ADAMs. I know that this defies logic and all that, but I assure you I'm not daft. Still, though, I wouldn't mind having the larger ADAMs to hear the bottom end a little more, but hey, I have them, they sound wonderful, I can really key in on the midrange, and they are not fatiguing. Members fuzzball
There is nothing wrong with still using 24 bit / 44.1 kHz. It sounds fine.

Phil O'Keefe
:D Seriously, I can hear a difference at higher sample rates, but it's more easily heard with the DSP / processing stuff, and IMO, high sample rates are just a way to work around the limitations of the filters... build a perfect Nyquest filter and 44.1 kHz would probably be just fine... but there is no such thing as a perfect filter. Unfortunately, there's still a big "hit" on your CPU and drives when running at 96 kHz (PT HD users can pretend I didn't say that ), and so it's a bit of a trade-off. But with most of the stuff I do being headed for CD's (and even MP3's ) and not DVD, I feel pretty comfortable where I'm at insofar as the sample rate. PS: What "Yoda avatar"? That's ME. Members fuzzball
The rate is one of the reasons I bought a 2480, it can do it and I don't have to worry about a computer crash. (Not as much at least). I can then export the files into the computer if I wish. Phil I knew that was you, Yoda told me so.

Members Sty1es
LOL, the neverending bitrate debate. Personally I'd love to move to a higher bitrate, but oddly enough, whenever we bumped up to 96k and cranked up the NS10s, we'd blow tweeter after tweeter...with apogee converters too!
