Well I have to say, Jay and Guitarfetish are a real class act.

Jay was on top of my countless emails before the sale.

Spent a good 30 min on the phone with me. I ordered it

on Thurs and on Monday it was at my door.

http://store.guitarfetish.com/xvth7lbledrf.html

The XV-700 is a very nice guitar, much better than anything I have seen in a sub -$500 guitar. I have sat in Guitar Center for hours and have seen several over $1000 that werent as nice.

Jay then endured my emails and questions after the sale

and was first rate all the way around. I tell ya guys...I'm

real anal about stuff and am hard to please. Buy Jay worked

with me all the way.

After I play it a while, I might be swapping out the Neck Pickup...not because there is anything wrong, but just to work with my rig better. If I do...I'll be calling Jay and popping in another GFS to get the sound I want.

There have been posts about having to set up the guitar when received. Well they ship it right...strings loosened and truss rod

loosened. No sweat for me. It plays great and is pretty rattle free

with .010 in relief and 1.5 mm string height at bass, 1.0mm at treble end.

For what it's worth, I highly recommend them.

Thanks Jay

Got pics? :D

How's the finish, binding, inlay work, and all that?

I almost got one of these in silver sparkle a few months back but opted for my Epi G400 instead. I'm glad I did because I love that guitar, but there are still times when I kind of wish I had tried this out. Mainly becase it was going for $280 at the time and I haven't seen another since.

Edit: Oh, and Happy New Guitar Day!

I have the 700 in natural and love it. Inlays, binding and fretwork are flawless, and what I expect on a $1000 guitar. The fretwork is perfect and polished to perfection. Being a geezer, and picky about my guitars, there is nothing to upgrade here!

I have bought a ton of stuff from Jay, and have never had a problem. IMHO there is not a better guitar made for $350.00 shipped to your door. Belly cut, coil taps, and an LP style guitar under 7 pounds. Can't go wrong here:)

now if you decide to swap the pup, would you use a GFS and if so which one?

I couldnt take any better pics that what are on the site. It does look like the pics.

While I havent put it 'under a microscope' I havent seen any flaws. In fact, I emailed Jay and asked if the maple top was real.

It just looked too good. Its 1/8 in maple.

The binding is great, no flaws that I have seen. The fretwork really is very good. When I got my $1000 Carvin TL60, I had to fuss with the neck and frets quite a while till I got it to play well.

Not This guitar, Its fine out of the Box.

Somepeople have commented on the Tuners. They are very smooth and tune right up and hold their tune. I have a set of the solid gold / metal ones coming from Jay simply because I perfer all metal.

I opened all the control cavities and the controls are wired fine. I'm an engineer and an Electronics tech and I couldnt do any better. I cant leave well enough alone and will probably be putting my own touches on it.

Another thing....If you see a guitar that they have but want a part changed, they will do it so dont hesitate to ask.

They really will work with you.

One thing I think would help Guitarfetish is if they were to post more detailed specs and maybe some sound clips. My feeling is the more info the better.

Sweet guitar, I've always been curious about xaviere's, and I really like the idea of this one with the belly cut (the shape and feel of LP's always bothered me) and for the life of me I can't understand why they use poplar on the strat and tele copies... otherwise they'd be great.

What's the nut width on that thing?

I'm not sure yet...I'll have to play it live through my main rig and see what my sound man says. I think it might be a little dark in humbucker mode for me...The thing is, when split, I think its probably perfect. A really good single coil sound so I dont want to brighten that up.

I will be installing a treble bleed cap on that pup which may fix it right up. It sounds fine at 10 but darkens up a bit below 7.

Thanks for the report. I have been very close to pulling the trigger on one of these for awhile. I love the LP shape and a much lighter guitar...

It does weigh in like they said, mine is sub 7lbs and the belly cut

really fits nice.

I thought my Carvin TL60 was light, this one is lighter and better balanced.

Are they bringing back the solid black model?

Every bit as nice.

As I said above.... I emailed Jay and asked if it really was a real maple top as it just looked too good. :)

I spent more time last night and this morning going over it again

and cand find a finish or binding flaw anywhere.

I dont know about the black,

Jay...maybe you can chime in.

I am wondering how tough the black neck and back are. What kind of paint and how thick. You know black, it shows every little imperfection and scratch.I wonder how 'buckle proof' the back is.

Very nice.

Congrats.

How thick is the maple top though?

Is it a veneer over a carved mahogany top?

Or veneer over carved plain maple top?

Is the neck mahogany or maple?

Is it one piece, or does it have a scarfed on headstock?

Is the nut plastic, bone, or graphite?

Are the tuners Klusen Deluxe clones.

Are they sealed?

Do you know the gear ratio?

How is the inlay work?

Is there much filler?

or is it a pretty tight fit?

How long is the neck tenon?

Does it extend to the neck pickup cavity?

Is the scale length 24 3/4 or something else?

Yes

No.

Website says solid mahogany

They paint the back of the neck black, so it'd be tough to tell, but you can bet it's scarfed, like my Epi.

They look like these with the ivory keystones. . .

By the way, this thread is useless without pics!!

here are some measurements of the nech and a couple of pics.

The pics dont do it justice without a better camera.

Width at nut = 1.7 in

width where neck joins body = 2.15 in

thickness at first fret = .88 in

thichness at 12th fret = .88 in

fret wire thichness = .11 in

fretwire height off fretboard = .04 in
