So...from everyone's reply, it seems that most people DON'T use an attenuator. I wonder why that is? Do you guys not like them in terms of how they affect sound? or does you guys just have smaller amps that your practice with at home?

I think attenuators bring out the best in tube amps as I am under the opinion that most amps sound better when the power tubes are pushed too. Attenuators simple do not give you the instant portability that a practice amp does, so if it is one or the other, you go with a smaller amp.

i have a 50 watt all tube silvertone head in the closet that never comes out.

i cranked it to max once and had a back to the future moment though. it actually blew loose papers and dart flights off a shelve 5' away.

i will stick to my 1/2 watt ruby head, 5 watt champ clone head, electar tube 10, and vj head.

i do have a webber 50 watt attenuator on the way though.

.... no .... your shelf vibrated them off... that is all...

I have a 50 Watt Marshall JCM2000 DSL and a 120 Watt Peavey Ultrra Plus that I use in stereo with my chorus pedal.

I have two 4x12 cabinets. - is this bad? Oh and I mic both amps too.

the tough part is changing from crunch to clean with two amps though.
