Members 80sbuttrock
I just got back my Charvel Soloist from on Ebay scalloping service and they did a fantastic job! I stopped playing for 6 mos due to lack of motivation but now I'm playing the crap of my new Yngwie mobile and now my finger hurt like hell. When I went back to my SG, my fingers didn't hurt as much (?) My question is do scalloped necks rip your fingers because your digits can dig in extra deep cuz there is no support from contact with a fretboard beneath? Members jtr654
With a Scalloped neck you need a Much Lighter touch sound like your strangling your neck. No More death grip.

Members Chordite
Try pressing a string until it rests on the fret, I'll bet it is about a quarter of the pressure you 'think' you need. Don't squeeze into frets, 'dance' on them
Members 80sbuttrock
I see. I'm gonna swap out the 9s I normally use for some Balanced Tension D'addario 10s- the 9s feel way to wanky now and I will do my best to garner a lighter touch
Members WRGKMC
With a scalloped neck, your fingers never touch the fret board, only the string. If you haven't played in awhile and have lost your callouses, your fingers may very well hurt more. The old adage, no pain, no gain may apply here. If you aren't putting in at least a solid hour a day or more then you can expect all kinds of pains getting back in shape.
