Members SrMeowMeow
...who would it be, and what style of music do you play (for reference)? I'm thinking Trey, actually. Maybe because I'm still just a week distant from a great Phish show. But I love that high-gain, lots of mid tone.
Members animalwithin
Steve Vai's encyclopdia of tones. I guess no specific one, but just his ability to produce such elegant, exotic sounds with his guitar.

Members kayd_mon
Pete Townshend from Live at Leeds. Also, even though it's kinda cliche to mention a Hendrix tone, I think the tone on the Woodstock version of Spanish Castle Magic is killer. The whole set sounds good, but that song especially. Members Steadfastly
With all the Multi-FX and synthesizer units out there, we can all copy tone. And please don't tell me you can tell the difference because you can't. There are simply too many variables to cover, like the size and materials of a structure and even crowd size which will change the tone to the audience. Perhaps if you are using very good quality headphones. Even then, there would be few who could tell the difference everytime with every song. Members kayd_mon
I remember a few months back, a guy posted a recording of a Zeppelin cover using (I think) the Axe-FX. He got the guitar tones to sound nearly identical to the original recordings... so I guess I'd have to agree with you.
