A few years ago I noticed a couple of companies (Korby and Telefunken USA) showing versions of their LDC mikes with hand-painted bodies at AES. While I wouldn't recommend having your friend take an airbrush to your vintage C12, I did think some of them looked pretty cool. Korby has a few examples on their site. I've got an Audio Technica that's gold, it came from the factory like that. If I can find it I'll post a pic. It would be the perfect candidate for something like that.
