Members boosh
This might be another weird Booshy question but: I'm writing this song...a sort of Curtis Mayfield,Quincy Jones mixed with Earth Wind and Fire kinda thing. Now I'm wondering,... what instruments are in them woodwinds and horns section they use. And,... I need the range ,... I mean ,..I can play each seperate instrument sampled on my keyboard but they have a range right?-c3 to c3 for example. This is fatal info for me because I can use my score editor afterwards and print the sheets and give them to real saxplayers etc. But if I play parts sampled that they never can reach all my work will be for nuttn... and this way I can learn a bit arranging too,. I thought Angelo could help me out,..can ya? Booshy

Members boosh
That's awesome man! Just what I need ,...Thanks Aussie ;-) Final question: What does a typical horn section consist of? I mean in funk and soulmusic?
Members John Sayers
I usually find that the horn section is a combination of brass and woodwind - i.e. trumpet and saxes with the trumpet on top. Like trumpet, tenor sax and baritone sax.Trumpet, alto sax and tenor saxTrumpet, tenor sax and trombone etc.etc. cheersjohn

Phil O'Keefe
That's awesome man! Just what I need ,...Thanks Aussie ;-)Final question: What does a typical horn section consist of? I mean in funk and soulmusic? Big band horn sections varied Boosh, but five saxophones (two altos, two tenors and a bari), four or five trumpets and three or four trombones is a fairly "typical" lineup. For rock / soul / funk, a trumpet or two, a trombone and a sax or two is not uncommon.
Moderators Lee Knight Posted January 29, 2007 Moderators Share Posted January 29, 2007 Hey Boosh. I've had great luck hooking up with a team, just sax and trumpet, that are good at interpreting ideas and turning them into reality with overdubs. This works great because I don't then need to sweat the details of it. "I want it like this... BAddat. Loooowwww bi dat!" Then they rolls their eyes and say "like this... BAddat. Loooowwww bi dat!" Yeah like that. Then he doubles on bone and the sax player switches to alto. It's pretty quick.

Moderators Lee Knight Posted January 29, 2007 Moderators Share Posted January 29, 2007 Have you ever been to the Netherlands? BTW Boosh. One time you mentioned you had an idea of trading houses for a vacation... I'd love to go the The Netherlands. Are you interested in Southern California? House swap for a week or 2! You could even track horns in my room here!
Phil O'Keefe
And of course, if you do ever come to California, you'll be a welcomed guest at my house too. Heck, if we can schedule your trip far enough in advance, we might be able to shcedule the next "Philphest" to correspond with your visit.

Yeah, wassup widdat? In the annals of music history, The Netherlands does not figure nearly as much as it should... YET: Dutch painters are the very best the world has ever known... It seems Holland has always been a more "visual" country and people, no? That said-- I loved the spate of Dutch pop hits that filtered into the American charts in the 1970's: The George Baker Selection, Mouth & Macneal, The Tee Set, Golden Earring. Ahhh....good times. Members boosh
In the past we've had bands like : Golden Earring,Shocking Blue,George Baker Selection. Today we've have guys like Tiesto and Armin van Buuren. We had Junkie XL doing"A little less conversation" with Elvis. I guess we didn't do all that bad in the Billboard charts for such a small country. There's not a soul in the world that doesn't know "Radar Love" or "Venus". We have a lot of musicians but they lack the drivenness that people from the U.S. have because we are such a small country. There simply isn't enough work for musicians that's why they don't try that hard. But a change is on the way,....when I have my {censored} together,..I'll be topping your charts for months,...
