hey everyone,

so i'm looking at a kit on craigslist and it has a 24" kick drum. He didn't include the depths, but it looks like its either 24x14 or 24x16. i was hoping i could find some sound bites online of that size kick but i couldn't find anything. I'm asking what ya'll think about this size kick, pros cons etc...

The 24" basses will indeed be lower in tone than 22's but if tuned right with really good heads, these can be the stuff rock dreams are made of. They will force you to place everything higher though. Only real drawback I can think of. Here's my two 24's...

low pitched sound, lower then a 22",
but you can't play as fast as on a 18", because the beater doesn't rebound as fast,
however I solved that problem decades ago with a lightweight cork beater which has a natural rubber ring around it

Having never owned an 18", I can only comment on the speed of rebound with comparison to my 22". I've only owned 22's prior to my Saturn's. I don't find rebound speed to be much of a noticeable difference between to two sizes. I would say I attribute that to the adjustment capabilities of today's pedals.

Mine are 24"x20". The ONLY difficulty, or issue I've had to address is I was continuing to get a low roar, (for lack of a better term right now) when I mic them. I love the low tone, but I believe because they're so deep, this can be an issue when trying to obtain that load, low thud that hits the audience square in the chest. In hindsight, a 16" or 18" would allow for more punch and less over tones. But, I still love my 24's. Kinda like a wild woman that has to be controlled. Can be a huge hassle at times, but the sex is so worth the effort.
