  1. I feel that ebay is a very accurate judge of market value. When I'm auctioning an item, I always research what the market it getting. Say, I'm selling a pedal that will probably end at $100. Instead of BIN for $100 or put in some reserve, I start my auctions at $1 no reserve. When I do this, I would not be surprised for it to end at $110. People get excited and emotional over the $1 start and they will predictably go over my item's $100 BIN competitor. I got this guitar brand new for $182 from a dealer who set it up on a $1 auction. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Jack-Daniels-EXP-Electric-Guitar?sku=511407
  2. Wow. I'm surprised you were able to tear yourself away from Antiques Roadshow long enough to respond. what's his prob anyway?
  3. If the day ever comes that I start watching other people buy {censored} for entertainment, shoot me.:thu:
  4. 99% of buyers are using sniping software? Man, I must be a freakin' caveman. Thanks for the tip.same here. I don't need it as a buyer. If I have bid my maximum that I'll pay for the item, no one can snipe me.
  5. I think you're catching on! Yeah, that's pretty much the same concept in watching classic guitars being auctioned on ebay. and the people are interested in the cars. You are interested in the bidding itself, not the guitars, at least that's how you've been wording your rant.
  6. yeah, there are really no deals to be found, it's a global world after all - but it's still fun to look around at all the cool guits and make some lowball bids hoping to get lucky. I think guitarcenter/used and music go round offer better deals overallgot my First Act Garagemaster recently for $75. Just got a Radial Tonebone Plexitube in a new factory sealed box for $155. Got a Sabine NEX overdrive pedal (great sounding pedal that sold for $90 new) for $11.50.
  7. Is this the best answer you guys could come up with? Welcome to the Amp Forum. well c'mon, think about it. When do you think most people have free time to be able to be on the computer?
  8. No games being played, sir. I just have an interest in guitars and the market. BTW, do you think all the folks watching the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction on Speed Channel right now are playing a "fun game"? I seriously doubt all those millions of viewers are actively participating and bidding on cars. my guess is they are more interested and curious about the product (the vehicles) and the selling prices than about the act of bidding.
  9. I used to sell stuff there years ago. I never started an auction with a price lower than what I was willing to accept. Why would you have a starting price of $200 when your reserve is $600? I know it probably saves some fees but it loses bids. If I see an item with 13 bids and it has not met reserve, I won't consider bidding on it. Maybe only I feel this way.I think reserves are idiotic. I avoid them unless I want the item dearly and can't find it anywhere.
  10. So...when are the hot times to end an auction?serious? It's pretty much common sense, especially when NOT to end an auction.
  11. I can't believe no one has jumped on THISGosh. Good luck there, huh?
  12. Anybody ever see any interesting auctions on the 'bay anymore? Seems the sellers are all a bunch of pusses. All I see is Buy It Now and and auctions both beginning with reserves that are at the very top of the value of the item. I don't see actual auctions of anything mildly interesting with bidding going on. When I sell, my auctions always begin at .01 and I usually get what I want for the item. Manny times I've actually gotten MORE than I thought I would and only gotten slightly less twice. Anyhow, its not much fun to even peruse the place anymore... When I go there as a buyer it is because I am looking for specific items, not because I want to play a fun game.
  13. I usually set my auctions up for the minimum I will sell the item for as my opening bid with a BIN option maybe %5 higher.
  14. I've sold hundreds of items on Ebay w/o any of those problems.
  15. I wonder if they'll implement a Captcha code to stop sniping? Or maybe they could turn on a captcha code in the last minute of the auction..... Just sayin' --:blah:bbs why? You can't get sniped it you are willing to pay more than the other guy.
  16. I don't understand the hate for sniping software. If people hate being sniped then set your bid at what you'd be willing to pay for the item. Being sniped doesn't affect that in any way unless you low-balled yourself. If that's the case then {censored} ya. Bid higher next time.Yep, I always get a kick outta that!
  17. Yep, Supernatural was a smash, so I guess that's the safe direction for his career. Then again, the dude has earned the right to do what he wants.no doubt! And yes, I think Henry is a killer player.
  18. vox has a magical shimmering chime that you can't get anywhere else. Its amazing!
  19. I would strongly advise the HT-5 or the Egnater.what don't you like about yours? I find them to be great, especially for good, versatile tones as an at-home amp.
  20. A big yes on the Valvetronix stuff. The Bugera V22, I guess it was ok the two times I used one. Clean channel is bad for my tastes. Overdrive is passable.
  21. nope, not w/o a clue what you want to do with it.
  22. I think I remember the beginning of Surrender having some pick slides in it.
  23. Boston and REO have pick slides all over the place. We always called it "zinging your strings".
  24. It's amazing, when I first started out I never really thought of delay being a critical part of many general guitar sounds. I got a delay pedal to do big delays like the Edge etc. But so many tones, especially lead tones, have a touch of delay on them. It's a pretty indispensable effect. David Gilmour does have some good uses, Another Brick in The Wall has some good rhythmic delay in it as well. And MONEY is a great example of "not using delay" as an effect. He does that killer lead with tons of delay and then goes to a totally dry part in his solo and the guitar just suddenly sounds like it moved forward about 10' in the mix.
