Its a great greasy blues/rock type of overdrive. Not what you think of when you see the name. Check out the Peavey Bravo and the Crate V-1512. Yes,I'm dead serious.
  2. Originally posted by Paul J. Edwards I've been a member for a few years and I've never seen "a board full of spam threads". Where do you get this from? If a so called "well respected forum regular" is complaining why do they click on the well indicated Spam Thread. This just does not make sense. If I see a thread that has a subject matter of "OT: Spam" I just don't click on it. Corporate Spam is something else but a guy wanting to unload a piece of gear is way OK. Why such the heavy hand all of a sudden? All of the things that make this forum cool is slowly evaporating. The only things that I think should be deleted are: 1. Hate speach. Racism not "I hate Metal Music" 2. Threats of violence. 3. Porno. I'm willing to agree to the girly threads. 4. Libel. Acusing others of criminal behaviour. Mr X is a child raper. Not MR. X is an asshole. The effort to make this forum anemic is underway or..... The new owners are so afraid of a lawsuit that they need to remove anything that a puritan may be offended by. I am offended by censorship. Does that count? I'm feeling queasy suddenly.
  3. Originally posted by MitchSchaft No, the mods post those rules. I don't think the mods are in charge of what the forum rules are.
  4. Originally posted by MitchSchaft He said it's about what the "owners" want, not us. Which is fine, but I want to see these "owners" tell us that. Don't the owners actually do just that by posting the rules of the forum?
  5. Originally posted by HottKarl I don't have any trouble with MYK....In fact, I'm betting MYK has no idea who I am....or for that matter, cares. But I do find his constant posting of random crap in every imaginable thread and his multiple moniker thing to be extremely annoying. So rather than constantly be annoyed, I've got him on ignore. I'm sure he could care less. So yeah, I guess it is me. But it gets back to the root point of this whole discussion....if you don't want to read something, don't click on it. And if someone or something annoys you......{censored}ING IGNORE IT. If more people operated that way here, we'd be looking at girlie threads, spamming gear and generally operating as usual. But thanks for your comments. I agree. Scroll down another inch if something doesn't interest you. But in the case of the Spam thing, there is obviously more to it than that.

It was no big deal because, after all,the rule is there. Sometimes, they let them hang around, sometimes they don't. When you joined, you must have had to agree to the rules of the forum, right? And you are here so evidently you agreed to them.
  9. Originally posted by chu2 I hate that thing. ESPECIALLY considering they own GC. It's the wal-mart of music stores. Horrible. Good selection, crappy service by college kids who don't know anything about guitar. I walked in there once and a guy walks up to me and asks me if I need help and I tell him I'm just looking. I start checking out some teles, strats, etc. The dude walks up to me and asks me if there's anything I'm looking for. I tell him I'm just looking for something to blow my christmas money one and, since I'm not old enough to be considered as an experienced guitarist, the dude tells me that the first thing I have to decide on is if I like the two-pickup gibson system or the three pickup fender system, while I'm standing right here staring at a DISTINCLY TWO-PICKUP FENDER TELECASTER. I almost told him that I perfer two-pikcup telecasters and three-pickup Black Beauty 'Pauls, but I just walked out of the store. Plus the smoke on the water playing over the din in that place was annoying the heck out of me. So GC sucks, at least around here. And I don't like MF becase they support GC. I'll be shopping at my tiny local store from now on, which I like much better. Those guys actually somewhat know what they're talking about. Spend your money where you prefer. Pretty simple.

  11. Originally posted by rockstrongo You know, it was weird last time that I used them. I played a show with another band that had one, and I had to play through one. I was playing my Marshall through it, and I couldn't get hardly any feel out of it. With my older Mesa and my Bogner, I can shake notes, pick lightly, and in general, make sounds out of the way that I play. I couldn't do that with the Carvin cabs, no matter how much I twiddled the knobs. It was like "that's the sound you're getting and that's it". It felt stiff as a board, the first time that I've ever felt that from my Marshall. Everytime I hit the strings, it was like an icepick in my ears, even with the presence and treble at 0. I dunno. The guy that I played that cab from (he has two) says that his Carvin's sound better than my Bogner.....which is a joke. There's a world of difference there, IMO. But it wouldn't be fair of me to compare a cab like that to the Carvin. They are fairly shallow so their internal volume is a bit less than the more modern cabs. Therefore, the f3 is going to be a bit higher. So maybe you were just trying to coax frequencies out of them that are below their tuning.
  12. Originally posted by rockstrongo I disagree completely. Every Carvin Legacy cab that I've played sounds excessivly bright, farty and brittle. I A/B'd the Mesa 4x12 that I used to have with two of them that belong to a friend of mine, and there was no comparison at all. I like the fact that Carvin makes decent gear at an afforrdable price (I'm not an everything-Carvin-makes-sucks guy), but I hate their cabinets. Their guitar cabs are their high point these days,IMO.
  13. Originally posted by charliedango I'm thinking older Carvin cabinets. I don't know why. Older = better. They switched from birch to a cheaper grade of plywood the last couple years. Still very decent, though.
  14. Either a Kitty Hawk Jr Pro or one of the George Dennis models.
  15. Originally posted by TheSteveMan Well I guess you like 'em way more tense than I do I am starting to like it a tad more tense, so I'm probably going to tune up to drop D-flat and leave the 10-46s on there Actually,I mainly thicken up the high E so that my higher notes are fatter on my leads. It isn't that I like the tension of that size of high E.
  16. Originally posted by TheSteveMan That guitar is a 25.5" scale.. I personally use 10-46 if I'm doing drop C or just whole step down on that scale. I feel the tension is pretty close to standard tuning with 9-42 strings. In fact one of my sweetest guitars is now set up with 10-46 strings in drop C. It is quite nice, but I might go a half step up and keep the same gauge, I'm starting to like the idea of a somewhat tighter tension on the strings. So hey, it might not be bad to use 11-52 or whatever gauge is next. I use 11-44 for standard and a 48 on the bottom string for my dropped-D guitars.
  17. Originally posted by televisionary I have a Jackson DXMG(?), you know--the cheaper dinky looking thing with the EMG-HZ pickups... Anyways, if I want this to be tuned to drop C, should I take the guitar to the shop and have him set it up? I'm guessing the intonation will be off. You'll probably have to adjust the intonation and maybe the truss. Hard to say. I'd probably go with about 12-52 for that tuning, but everyone is different. Just start where you think you might want to be and go from there maybe changing all the strings or just a couple of them that aren't quite right to you.
  18. Originally posted by 17 Tubes Dio... What can't you stand? He's been doing metal for 30+ years. That in itself is so cool I'd put up with it. No one has mentioned Dee Snyder. Now that was a flash in the pan. So dis someone who has been doing it regularly, but not ones that couldn't hang? Hmmmm..... He warbles too much. Kinda sounds like Katherine Hepburn through an octave-up pedal. Of course, there is also very little metal that I can actually stomach.

  23. Originally posted by shredhead666 +1. Seriously annoying voice. I just don't understand how people can find it that annoying, especially with the other stuff out there.
  24. Originally posted by andyhumb How about the guy from Journey? He seems to torture me very well with each song - I still, suffer thru it just to listen to Neil Schon's playing Yes,Perry makes me ill. Partially because the nightmare of seeing the video to SEPARATE WAYS is firmly etched and scarred in my brain.
  25. Originally posted by andyhumb he always sounds like he is exhaling - after awhile it gets annoying, I too - would love to hit him in mouth - at least once So I'm guessing you can't stand Norah Jones for the same reason?
