I actually was gonna start a thread on this, but it seems so cheesy. Thanks! I don't know, but I'm on the damn net enough...and I'm a good troll, so I could be a great spammer! Better than the tripe these bots cook up. :)

I do wonder what sort of legitimate opportunities exist in this type of work. It's the usual scam things going on, so how do you wade through the bull?

I could easily do 6-8 hours of data entry a day. ;) Boring stuff, but if I'm getting paid for it...

Failing that, I suppose you could design websites or open some sort of e-business. But try the first suggestion first.

Like, I'm not a hot 19 year old who can drum up an internet following with a downward angle and a pushup bra. I need real solutions! :)

I do some decent web and graphic design. I know how to setup my own webspace/ftp/I even set up my own wiki!/maintain blogs, custom myspace design, and all sorts of other stuff...I'm a web/computer junkie. Obviously.

How does one get started in this field? Should I just start hitting up local business, bands and such on the net, or do I need to get with the local computer shops and give them a card and tell them I can do some freelance work for them on the cheap?

Start blogging and set up an Adsense account through Google. I believe it's easiest to do this if you set your blog up through blogger.com since Google owns it.

Be sure to blog about things where advertisers will pay top $$ for click-throughs from the ads on your web-page.

When you figure this out, let me know how to do it. :D

Have you just done this as a hobby, or as a part time profession (freelance?)

I ask because I started out as a hobbyist over 10 years ago. Tried applying for jobs but with little success. What helped me was doing projects (still as a hobbyist/freelance) using real design and implementation methods and being able to show potential employers the work.

Gathering requirements, documenting, providing real contracts to customers, design phase, initial coding, etc etc

Not sure if you've done things this way or not, but being able to show that you can manage a project, not just "This is a site I did for my buddy Rick a'cause he said he wanted to sell some o' them deer he shoots online!"

Drew

"Nah, he don't shoot them online. He shoots 'em in real life, then sells that venison online. You know?"

What do you know how to do that people would pay you for?

Well... I could do data entry, or any kind of work with data.

I could translate english-spanish-english

I dont know... any thing doable on the web really.

Have a
KauxCam
. It's on 24 hours a day, and people pay subscriptions to view you from their computers. It does help to be a really hot looking young female who does fascinating things in front of the camera, though.

jeje... i doubt any body would pay to see my hairy, fat ass :D

doesn't make you rich by any means, but I get about $60 a month for doing maybe 30 minutes a week worth of stuff on their site.

I also do three other sites similar to this, so it adds up.

Sounds good... i guess "doesn't make you rich by any means" is valid for any legal and real stuff like this. Thanks.

Besides porn, you can apply for these semi-scam offers that give you valuable rewards for consumer-testing various services. You absolutely have to be on your toes, and cancell the services as soon as you're allowed, and one of the"services" is invariably applying for a credit card, so it'll hose your credit rating. However, there are guys who work these things, and make a supplemental income at it. Do some Googling.

You could offer the Mexican pharmaceutical makers to pay you for emailing out ads for their little blue pills, I suppose. But that's not only of dubious ethics and legality, it is also unimaginative.

You could offer to sell instrumental tracks to budding vocalists and remixers. You could sell voice-over services to radio and TV stations for commercials (it's probably a lot more fun to make commercials than to listen to them!!). You could sell subscriptions to on-line musical instrument lessons.

Like any business venture, the grinding grunt work and number one job is marketing - - you have to reach the customer and convince them what you have is worth paying for. Without that you'll get nowhere.

Then you have to actually have something to exchange for their money. Without something of substance to sell, you will be floating on a cloud of BS and daydreams, which will eventually cave in and let you fall to a painful landing... Much like hedge fund bankers and similar societal leaches.
