Looks interesting. I like Maple fretboards, AND I like SGs, but not sure it would work as a winning combo on an SG. Not a big fan of the batwing pickguard, I like the classic '62 style small pickguard or the SG Jr style.

As a side note, anyone have an idea of what's underneath a batwing pickguard? Could you just add mounting rings and call it a day or is there a huge gaping swimming pool under that pickguard?

Overall, maple isn't heavier than than mahogany. Mahogany varies much more depending on varieties and moisture. In some cases maple is actually lighter.

You don't handle much mahogany or maple I guess?

Even generously maple is about 150kg per cubic metre heavier than mahogany, and rock maple is nigh on 200kg per cubic metre heavier

Is it me or is the pickguard translucent?

I would rather have black dots over these inlays on all of the Raw Power models.

Yes it IS translucent. I also found the answer to my question. The batwing SGs have that ugly ass routing between pickups and additional routing channel to the control cavity. Small SG pickguard would not completely cover these routings. DAMN.

dumbass.

try just a *little* bit harder.

you're citing the info for the LES PAUL as your evidence for the SG. Come on, don't scratch your head too hard... you can do this, you can understand what I'm getting at here.

I see now that you are correct.

It is *I* who was misinformed.

Consider the original dumbassing retracted and placed on my post instead.

god dammit.

EDIT: As an aside, the idea of a 100% maple SG is pretty awesome.

There were also these. I just did not post them earlier.

I like these personally. Reminds of some real firs class guitars like my First Act Sheena in blue. Seriously I would love to play one and see what she sounds like.

Nope. I cited the general Raw Power page which refers to both the SG and the Les Paul. As was pointed out earlier, the Gibson site has posted conflicting info.
