Will the MIDI spec EVER be upgraded???

It's constantly being updated, actually. But I do wish there was finer resolution on the controllers, like you can do with pitch bend...however, that's a pretty fundamental change. For now, it looks like interpolation or smoothing at the receiver is the best fix. For example, the DA7 mixer interpolated the 128 incoming MIDI values into 1,024 values, so the faders were nice and smooth.

Keith McMillen's Stringport paper mentions an upcoming HD Protocol for MIDI:

Open Sound Control is a widely used MIDI-alternative in the world of wireless motion controllers:

I read that the VAX77 keyboard implements HD Velocity but it got mixed reviews from those who tried it.

Just wondering....I'm tired of stairsteps and bottlenecks and all that.

Are the MIDI gods just waiting for Craig to tell them what to do?

Surely some of you in HC land are in that loop somewhere...

MLAN? MIDI and wordclock at a bandwidth up to 400 Megabits per second

It feels to me that MIDI would be better with more resolution devoted to capturing the rhythm/timing of the performance. I also wish for more resolution for the controllers.

I thought M-LAN was intended to be the new MIDI?

Unfortunately, getting manufacturers to agree on a standard is difficult and rare, even though MIDI was clearly a win/win for everyone involved. So I'm skeptical we will ever see a newer MIDI adopted by all manufacturers.
