Single-coil sized or full-sized HB in a strat?

I'd like a bit more push from the bridge position in one of my strats - something thicker and higher output than the stock single coil. So I'm going to put in either a single coil sized or full HB in it. I'd like to hear the experience of those who've tried either or ideally both. Two questions:

1)which sound better on their own, in your opinion of course? I'm not going for a dead on LP sound, that probably wouldn't happen anyway - I'm good with something thinner/less smooth as long as it's full and humbuckerish.

2) which work better with the bridge/middle position? I know that a full hb can be split and sound pretty good, how do the small humbuckers fare there?

I firmly believe that no single coil sized bucker can sound like a real bucker. Rails, stacked or whatever, can't be done. I have tried many and they just don't cut it. The closest I have tried though is a fast track 2 by dimarzio. Smooth with push and overdrives and amp well. Use a no load tone control or at least a 500k pot to open it up.

A long story, lots of experimentation with different pickups blah, blah, blah but a couple of months ago, I got a regular single coil by BG. A Phatty wound to 13k. It does it all and I still have a classic strat. Highly recommend.

The area of the pickup under the string is what the difference is, basically. A single coil size humbucker still only covers only so much string area, compared to a regular humbucker.

While a single coils size pickup can add more beef and quack, the actual power you may be describing comes on stronger with a full size humbucker more easily.

If you get one that goes to single coil from humbucking mode in a full size humbucker that does single coil mode well, you can cover the sounds you need.

I had a single coil sized humbucker in a strat, and then the regular size humbucker in another strat. It really is a matter of preference for what you hear and feel from these two different pickups.

I have a Duncan JB Jr. in one Strat, and I have a full-sized JB in another guitar. They don't sound the same at all. I actually prefer the JB Jr. to the full-sized one. And I completely agree with the above posts that say a single-coil HB cannot sound like a full-sized. There's a smaller magnetic field, so it'll be different. For me, I prefer the smaller ones in a Strat, but that's just me. Full-sized will sound great, too.

If your going for a humbucker make sure you get one thats F spaced. Many normal Humbucker pole pieces wont align eith the strings on a strat because the spacing is wider. you can wond up havving the two outside strings outputting less power making the high E string dead in comparison to the others.

The Dimarzio Tone Zone S is KILLER. Of the sc-sized buckers I've played it sounds the most like a full size humbucker. I put mine in the bridge of my Starfield and the guitar can do anything now.....

Here are a couple clips I recorded with it:
