Members kit_strong
The Bigsby thread got me thinking that this might be a useful tip for others. It wasn't until I did my first Bigsby string change that I stumbled upon this little trick but now I do it for all string changes and it has made life that much simpler. Simply attach the ball end as normal, run the string over the saddle, pull it tight and then capo it around the first fret. This keeps it in place while freeing up both hands to cut the string, run it through the tuners, and wind it. Hopefully a few of you find this to be a useful tip. -Kit

Members MisterTV
Yes! I discovered this tip a couple of years ago -- it's the only way I change strings now.
Members sk8centilli
I posted this in the "So What's the Big Deal about a Bigsby?" thread, too. The guys at the Gibson factory in Kalamazoo used to jam a piece of foam under it. Even StewMac.com offered it as a solution in one of their " trade secrets": A piece of foam can hold the strings while you string up.

Members jonny guitar
LOL Since 1982 I have used the same pencil and wedged/stuffed the erase portion under the ball while I tightened up the string (this replace the original method of masking taping the string in place.....I might just have to use your method from now on.
