Members Faber
Fess up to your guilty secrets here . give examples of songs you dislike or outright bad songs with good lead playing. I can't be the only guy here who, especially when I was younger, sat through some clunkers to get to "the good bit", the solo that is. To start it off Jay Graydon do well on this Steve kipner throwaway [video=youtube;yBPRrsrj_6M]
Members photon9
I can't stand Heart but the solo in Magic Man is undeniably awesome.

Members tim gueguen
This is like those "like the musicianship, hate the singer" threads. If I don't like the song or singer why would I hang around just to listen to the guitar solo?
Members seahorse
I've always liked the solo in Elton John's I'm Still Standing.
Members kayd_mon
Ok, I do like this song, in spite of the fact of how undeniably cheesy it is. Anyway, it's one of the first shred-type solos that I really liked. I know, I know, but hey - when I was 10 and just starting to get into music, it was the early 90s, and I listened mostly to grunge. Great pick. I absolutely love the solo in that one, it's like one of those "standing on the top of a mountain playing guitar while eagles fly above" type deals. Members kayd_mon
^^ Yeah, and I think he does a good job of making that flurry of notes sound pretty melodic.
Members scott944
Graydon solos for half the song! And that's a good thing. First thing that came to mind for me is the fuzzed out solo on the outro of The Carpenters "I'll Say Goodbye to Love". Starts at about 2:45. http://youtu.be/FdG-ITxL8ok

Members Futuresman
I always thought the solo in My Sharona was great (the second one), perfect for the melody of the song. The rest of the song was kinda 'meh":
Members _pete_
Great solos, crap songs.White Lion could be the poster child for this thread but Vito Bratta was a killer. Solo at 2:18[video=youtube;LrPJgnOXjy8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrPJgnOXjy8 Solo at 2:48[video=youtube;DaT8is6b3QA]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaT8is6b3QA
Members EricJohn
Vito was such an amazing player. Another band that fits that bill is Winger. Reb Beach is amazing.

Members naveed211
[video=youtube;wGnl0WVhbIk]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGnl0WVhbIk Solo is at 1:43 if you can't take the sugary-ness. This band is WAY too cutesy, but they can play.
