GAS On A Leash?

I've owned more than my share of gear through the last 4 decades.
I've seen Gibson discontinue and re-issue stuff that never existed and act like BT Barnum.
I've lived through the vintage market when late 50's LP Std's were less than a grand; original used Dan Armstrong plexi guitars were less than $200.00; custom color Fender guitars were actually less desirable and when used hand wired Plexi Marshall full stacks were less than a grand.
To be a geezer and act like my dad.rolleyes.gif

I think I've reached the have done it/seen it period of my life.
There's little to float my boat.
My desire to get laid is just as important as when I was 20.love.gif
When that changes, I'll be in my dirt nap.

Anyway, the gear lust has slowed down.
Time to enjoy what I have and the memories of what I had.

I'm in an unofficial sell off mode (I want to sell half my stuff - so 15-20 guitars - but just havent started, such a pain to sell. So easy to buy!).

I got my eye on a particular 513 that will set me back a bit. Hope to buy it within the next 6 months. That's helped slow my GAS down - every $100 spent for "this or that" could go instead towards my dream axe - so I'm trying to be good and avoiding a TON of great deals.

When I started to try to remember if I even had certain guitars (or had sold/traded them), I knew I had a problem. And when I play once a month for 30 minutes, what's the point in owning more than 1 guitar?!

The GAS is still there, but it fades faster. Life is too busy (right now) to focus on buying stuff.

There's tons out there I haven't owned or even played. I've bought virtually everything that I do have on a pretty tight budget. But I already have way more than I need, so at this point it's all gravy. This year I rec'd one very cool guitar (Casino w/Bigsby and an added master vol) as a gift (from my church bandmates!), and bought a cheapie bass (Turser Stingray copy) that I could've kept, but ended up flipping.

The same friend who bought the Turser bass hit me up just yesterday, he wanted to upgrade from some starter guitar he had that was giving him fits. Even though I didn't have it listed anywhere, and wasn't really considering selling it, I sold him my Peavey Predator Strat. I'm sure I'll get another Strat at some point, but I'm more a Tele/LP guy anyhow.

Starting my first new job in 29 years in January, maybe a little extra dosh will change things, but I doubt it. Having to move all my gear from La Officina back to Casa Krashpad (I will be doing the "home office/telecommute" thing) has reinforced how much stuff it is!

Funny, that's exactly what I thought upon reading the post too.

Well, it's good that your desire to get laid is still as strong as it was when you were 20. Seriously. My heart still goes pitter pat when I see a pretty girl, but circumstances seem to have knocked my aim more towards the supple curves of mahogany and alder slabs. It wouldn't be that way though if the wife would just agree with my requests for surrogates. biggrin.gif

Hoping to cure GAS in 2013, as I did in 2012, as I did in 2011, as I did in 2010, as I did for 2009 . . . .

I am trying to ease up. So many good deals to be had this time of year. People rushing to unload stuff just to get a few bucks for Christmas.
Having a use for my gear is helping me at the moment. It shows me what I really need. I find when I go on a gigging hiatus, gear tends to pile up.
Had a moment of weakness the other day and almost pounced on a relatively new Gibson. Anyone in my area wanting a MM Explorer, I have the guy down to $220 biggrin.gif

Me too. I'm guessing we're about the same age, and we've experienced pretty much the same things. Lots of touring and studio time for me too. I've begun giving away my gear over the last couple of years to people that wouldn't otherwise have an opportunity to have stuff like this. It's opened some doors for those people, and made me feel pretty good at the same time. I'm not flicking it in yet (I'm still gigging and recording), but I don't feel the need to own so much "stuff" at this point. Cheers!

Does that look like "cured" to you?
Whoa...that's quite the collection...I don't think I've ever seen all of your guitars in one pic like that smile.gif

My GAS is pretty much cured, basically because I'm picky and to really want something I'd have to like it more than what I already have, and that's not happening any time soon by the look of things.

Once you find a guitar that just has "it" then it's difficult to downgrade to something else, even if that something else might be on paper the nicer guitar.

My "it" guitar is my American Vintage Hot Rod '52 Tele. I've played more expensive guitars, but they just didn't have my sound in them, or the feel to them, like that guitar does.
One day I hope to find a nice Strat that does the same for me as that guitar does. So far nothing, even the far side of a

Haha, thanks, it's pretty ridiculous. Of course it's actually dwarfed by Lou's collection and many more here.

And by odd coincidence a buddy from church contacted me out of the blue last night and bought my Peavey Predator Strat (which I wasn't actively listing for sale, but he needed and I didn't, so off she went), so technically the absolutely current batch is down by one guitar and one amp (the vintage 60's Cordovox 2x12 under the Peavey PA 2x10 modded into a bass cab) of that pictured.

That was so much fun! Next time you come down it'll hafta be to Casa Krashpad proper, instead of La Officina. Am in the process of getting the PA set up there instead, and clearing enough room for a band.
