Members datru
What in your opinion is the sonic difference between fender thinlines and their solid-body brothers. Good examples of the differences?

Members lz4005
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Specifically comparing 3:40 and 5:20 in that video.Same amp, same wood, same pickups, only difference is the thinline/solid.
Members Elias Graves
So what you're saying is that the setup an other factors can overwhelm any difference made by the hollower body? It's great. For every argument that claims to hear a difference, there's another that says "Yes, but..." According to Mrs G, they all sound the same anyway. Setup can change how things sound, but it won't make a solid body sound like a thinline, or vice versa. That video is about as good as you're going to find demonstrating the difference between the two body types. They have a tech set up the guitars before they shoot, so they're most likely adjusted very similarly. Members knotty
Similar yes. Same, no.I would be more impressed if they could take 2 of the same model and make them sound exactly the same.
Members GAS Man
Thinlines are brighter with more presence. I have a '72 Tele Deluxe & a '72 Thinline and they sound quite a bit diff due to the body. Yeah, one maybe alder d'other ash, but the main diff iz comin from da lack o'wood under dem RI WRs. My '69 T Thinline - fuhgettaboutit. Really bright, but them I be understanding that havsum crazy pots be at work there too.
