Thinline vs. solid...sound differences?

So what you're saying is that the setup an other factors can overwhelm any difference made by the hollower body?

 

It's great. For every argument that claims to hear a difference, there's another that says "Yes, but..."

 

According to Mrs G, they all sound the same anyway. :D

Setup can change how things sound, but it won't make a solid body sound like a thinline, or vice versa. That video is about as good as you're going to find demonstrating the difference between the two body types.

They have a tech set up the guitars before they shoot, so they're most likely adjusted very similarly.

Thinlines are brighter with more presence.

 

I have a '72 Tele Deluxe & a '72 Thinline and they sound quite a bit diff due to the body.  Yeah, one maybe alder d'other ash, but the main diff iz comin from da lack o'wood under dem RI WRs.  My '69 T Thinline - fuhgettaboutit.  Really bright, but them I be understanding that havsum crazy pots be at work there too.
