Early reports say the hostage-taker, aged 33, and his hostages are barricaded in a classroom at Colbert de Torcy High School. The school is located in the town of Sable-sur-Sarthe, about 40 kilometres away from the small city of Le Mans in northwestern France. Local media are reporting that 18 of the hostages are high school students, one is a teacher, and one is another school employee.
