Members Casper Cliche
Ever done it, or seen it done? What pickups were used?
Members DevilRaysFan
My first question would be: Why? Peavey T-40/ T-45 pickups are probably the best sounding/highest output passive pickups on the planet. I can't tell you the exact out put specs but my T-40 can keep up with most of my basses with 9v active systems (my G&L is excluded). The second question is: What pickups do you have in mind? Keep in mind that a T-40s tone knob rolled back to about 7 also acts as switch from dual coil to single coil....................

It's kinda like a Dano in that respect. I don't agree with swappin pickups in the T-40, but I have heard of people dropping Dark Star pickups in without any major modifications. Members bholder
I concur - why? The Darkstars sound like an interesting experiment, but you'll probably be spending more for the pickups than for the bass.
Members Scottpro1969
Another vote for the Darkstar pickup. I modded my T-45 with one and it is an awesome pickup. I have Pyramid flats on it and us it for Beatles and 60's music. Haven't heard it with rounds yet. I want to get another T-45 and do the same and have rounds. They are expensive but WELL worth it. Members Scottpro1969
By the way, no routing had to be done to the pickup cavity. I am in the process of getting a chrome p/u cover instead of the white/pearloid one currently there.
Members Scottpro1969
Here's a close-up of the mod. The p/u ring has to go. Can't wait for the chrome one.
Members BP90
I'm going to raise this thread from the grave and ask a question.... Are the pickups in the T40 bass the same as in the T60 guitar? I ask because I picked up a T40 with a possible bad pickup...
Members lug
yes. As far as I know, they only changed the pups form "toaster" to "bar" the one time and the bass and guitar always used the same.
Members Caroway
Should be interesting with some Darkstars. I had a black with Rosewood fretboard T-40 a few years ago, loved it but was one heavy SOB.
