Have you ever played a Shires? Very, very nice.

They aren't $8000, though, more like $3-4000. Are you talking about a special custom model?

ive played them and they are worth every penny  yes i had me an estimate on a bass bone done when i was searching for a college horn. i ended up going cheap with a $1500 eastman same designer made in China instead of Canukistan

Just a few years ago, the Chinese/Taiwanese horns were laughable.

Not anymore.

Jeez, I hate that show, although I did get some great insight.......like learning that 9' of tubing if straightened out would reach from the floor to the ceiling...

i was flipping the channels and i dont normally watch it but i saw the tubing and then i stopped and watched the segment. i knew the 9' of tubing thing but i dont know why a person would straighten out their horn and do that.

That was cool. Thanks! :thu:

I'm always amazed watching instrument makers do their thing.

BTW, what's the difference between a turtle and a trombone player walking down the road?

The turtle is on his way to a gig...

"the only instrument where hand changes length to alter pitch"

This guy ever heard of bass ? Or any string instrument for that matter ?

Great documentary anyway.

You're mincing words. The equivalent of a string to a brass instrument would be valves, which shorten the length of tubing by depressing it with the finger.

You aren't stretching your bass' neck or altering the string itself to change your tone, only changing how much of the string is in use.

=P dork.
