It's great when someone you look up to who is so talented also happens to be a righteous human being.

Some guy over on the effects forum saw David Gilmour last week. Apparently he is a dick. I kinda understand though, after 30 years of people coming up to you, you might be tired of it. But it's cool to know that some people don't mind

Thanks. I should see if I can find that ticket stub and scan it for you. It's somewhere in the middle of a stack of tickets, just no idea where off hand.

I need to start saving more tickets. The only 2 I have saved are RATM and Cypress Hill and Clutch.

Ya think you, me, Eric Chambers and Renfield are a large enough contingent to get Gibson to do a regular-run production non-reverse T?

In my case, it'd have to be an Epi probably. I'm a broke bastid.

Didn't Epiphone put out some in the late 90s?

Yes, it had PJ pups and was also available as a 5 string.

And for good measure, here is Mike Watt's

And a great story behind it as told by Mike Watt himself

Yes, I am a devout fan of the King of the Thudstaff, under my user name at TB it simply states Jammin Econo, and has since Day 1.

Have you seen the Minutemen documentary yet? I picked it up the other day but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Yeah I own that We Jam Econo DVD if that's the one your talking about. It's cool. Most of it is Mike Watt walking/driving around telling stories about old places they used to play, or the tree where he met D Boon. Cool stuff. The earlier videos are questionable (much like that Mastodon DVD I just got) but the "newer" videos are better quality. I bought it because I had to review a band for a project and I just happened to hear about that DVD a week before, so I went and bought it. Watch it.

That's the one. I will watch it soon, been working too much lately at night. Between doing some graphics mockups for GM for the Super Catastrofuzz he's doing for me soon and the defret I haven't had a lot of free time.

Speaking of... a coworker came through for me and just gave me some clay neck dots that he had left over. So before I finish the sanding on the neck, I'm drilling out and replacing the white plastic dots for clay. :thu:

It does look interesting. I'd rock it.

IIRC correctly Nikki Sixx used one way back in the day before Spector made a version of it for him.

Gibson reissued the guitar version during their "Guitar of the week" promotion.

Nikki Six on the other hand I would not rock. Bleh.

I think they look better in black.

And sure, they are heavy. But they aren't THAT heavy.

BTW, $1200 isn't really out of the ballpark on these, but I think the Craigslist dude is a bit confused. The maple ones are more prevalent than all other colors. If Gibson ever decides to reissue either the RD, or the non-reverse T-Bird, I'm gonna have a very difficult time not buying one. I had a couple of the 90's Epi non-reverse 5 string T-birds. They weren't bad basses, but I got rid of them when I got over my 5er fetish.

Thanks for sharing the Mike Watt stories! Very cool stuff! I did see Firehose once, but didn't have the guts to Talk with Mike. He seemed real nice and all, I just didn't want to bug him while he was tearing down. You say you got to touch his thudstaff? I am officially jealous!

It looks just like the RD Artist I used to have - although it was fairly heavy, it wasn't any heavier than a typical T-40(was *probably lighter)... That bass was "the one that got away" - I sold fairly cheap when the frets got too low to play... I sure wish I'd paid to have it refretted, as I miss that bass quite a bit - it was one of the best sounding basses I ever played....

I'd love to own another RD Artist...

I want all of my basses to be 'cool speciality axes.'
:thu:

I tend to think this way. The problem is that I write certain tunes on certain basses because they lend themselves to a sound or style. So that means I need that bass to play the song, which is why at my career peak ended up playing live with 7 different basses, and could realistically justify every one.

Yeah, it was pretty cool, happened out of nowhere. The third time I saw him play I was working in the club that he was playing, (Starfish Room in Vancouver, RIP) and was there in the afternoon when they loaded in. So the story I shared previously had already occurred, about 2 months prior roughly at that. This was the tour for Contemplating the Engine Room, and this was the bass that he did the whole album on.

He pulled out the t-bird as I happened to walk by and it stopped me dead in my tracks, my jaw dropped when I saw it. It was the coolest looking bass I had ever seen. I LOVE vintage, well used instruments, I'm far from a coffee table boutique guy. He saw my reaction and grinned. I went in for a closer look as he held it and showed off it's features. Next thing I know he's holding it at arms length asking if I wanted to try it. There was a definite mojo in that bass, I could feel it when I touched it.
