Members 6StringSling
I've been getting a lot of requests to play this. Question to those who play it: On the Intro/1st verse do you finger pick, flat pick or both? Obviously you can get more volume with a pick but I still find it easier to play with finger picking. Members GCDEF
12 string, capo on the 7th fret, pick.
Members RupertB
Not sure how Frey did it, but I'd use a thumbpick/fingers.
Members Rezrover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdXhXYeo1RULooks like Frey is capo'd at the second fret playing with a pick and Walsh & Felder are finger-picking with no capo. Members Yer Blues
Even when they do it live the Eagles have three guitarist. If you are trying to cover it with one guitar you just need to do what sounds best for you. I play it without a capo and primarily use a pick. Members A_Gitarman
12 string, capo on the 7th fret, pick. this. But we have 3 guitars. I cover the 12-string part, one of our singers strums along on his acoustic (without a capo), and the other guitarist does all the little fills, etc. I switch to my 6-string during the 1st solo part, play the 2nd & 4th solo bits, and the 3rd guy and I do the harmony parts at the end together. Here's a clip that my drunken sis-in-law made a couple months ago (hence the sideways camerawork and screaming ). Please pardon the missed notes :
Members cooterbrown
I play it on keys with a blended 12-string, nylon, and simple steel combo patch. Guitarist plays the melody line.

Members Vito Corleone
Stairway to Heaven! $3K!! We're almost there!! Funny, I remember reading an interview with Jimmy Page years ago where he complained that he only used his double-neck guitar on one song but that it accounted for 95% of the pictures taken of him.
