Members VegasShow
I need some help. I have a Mackie 808S Mixer and need to run the correct speaker cables to a pair of passive EV ZX4's. I read the ZX4's specs http://www.electrovoice.com/products/251.html and need to know if these speakers are bi-amped. EV calls for Speakon NL4 connectors. On the Mackie 808S there are two 1/4" "speaker out" connectors: Left/Main: with two 1/4" connectors (Speaker Out) Right/Monitor: with two 1/4" connectors (Speaker Out) Do I use a cable like this? http://procablesnsound.com/items/biamp-cables/speakon-to-2-large-body-1-4~8242-s/power-sc50-nl214-12-4-20850-detail.htm Please some one set me straight. I have been using the standard 1/4" Speakon to 1/4" with 4 Pole Speakon, 14GA, 2 Conductor Speaker cable. Am I using the right cables or am I missing out on utilizing the full function of the ZX4 speakers? Thank you in advance of your replies!

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted March 31, 2009 CMS Author Share Posted March 31, 2009 If you're hearing the speakers and they don't sound weird (either no lows or no highs) then you've got the right cables.
Members agedhorse
If your mixer-amp is smoking, you got the wrong cable.

Typically, Bi-Amp refers to the practice of using one amplifier for low frequency signals and another amplifier for high frequency signals and they utilize an electronic crossover device to split the signals into two seperate feeds. That means that your low frequency woofers are connected to one amp and your high frequency drivers/horns are connected to another. Many systems use this option and sometimes a Tri-amp option where one amp feeds the highs, one for the mids/low mids, and one for the Subs. These systems are more complicated to get calibrated correctly than a single full range system like you have. The speakers in question have a passive crossover network built in and from the documentation, I did not see an option where you can bypass the crossover and connect the woofer to one amp and the hi freq driver to another. There are many cabinets out there that have this capability. You do not need a Bi-Amp cable assembly. The cable that tcheatham12 suggested is the correct type of cable for your mixer/amp speaker combination. Good luck. Rick

Members VegasShow
Post # 2. Read that post but did not answer my question about NL4 connectors as recommended by EV ZX4 Spec Sheet . . . Found and ordered what I was looking for:Coleman SJ touring grade cable, and genuine Neutrik Speakon NL4, and Switchcraft JUMBO 1/4" connectors. These are wired 1+ 1- . Again - thanks for the replies!
