Members Freeman Keller
I have a commission for a tele clone and my customer thinks he wants a P90 in the neck position. He pointed me to http://www.Budzguitars.com as a possible source. Frankly I'm having a hard time navigating the Budz website and I have e-mailed them for information, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with either Budz pickups or a P90 in general in the neck position. I assume that being a single coil the P90 would work fine with standard tele 250K pots and standard caps. Second question is that my customer also asked about a piezo in the bridge. I have seen and used a piezo ToM style bridge but have never seen one made for a tele. Anyone know of anything that I might look at?
Members Grant Harding
These would work. I've heard great reviews and clips of these: http://www.graphtech.com/products/brands/ghost/product-detail/pn-8163-00-ghost-pickup-tele-3-barrel-saddles?id=089bc32b-c00f-4fe2-9dfb-3e2ec481f74c
Members mrbrown49
I have a couple guitars with p90s in the neck position, one 24.5" scale and the other 25.5". The p90s works great in both. I tried 250k pots in the strat and they muddied up pretty quick so I went to 500ks.
Members Freeman Keller
Thank you, that just may be the ticket. I've also heard that Fishman makes a tele bridge - I need to follow thru with that.
Members Freeman Keller
Got a reply from Budz and they say that the 250 will work fine. However the pots are pretty easy to switch out if it doesn't.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted November 30, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 30, 2016 I'd take some cues from the Tele Custom, P90s and 300k and below pots are not happy friends
Members Freeman Keller
Thanks, RC. Budz did tell me this in an e-mail Designed to be able to use a 250k for both pickups, the bridge is 8k and the p-90 is 6.2k the inductance is the the same for both so the respond the same to the volume control My customer is leaning towards the Budz pups, I guess we can always change the pots if we don't like the sound. Members Grant Harding
If you're in touch with the person who designed and made the pickups I'd definitely use their recommendation for components.
