Members Tomm Williams
Talking with various folks who use this mic, I find a wide opinion about where this mic "shines". What applications do you folks really like this mic on?. I get almost a love/hate swing of opinions, kinda like beta98's. Any users on snare? Members tuchan
I have one and it goes on a snare or guitar cab every now and then. Sounds just fine to me. Have used it for vocals in the past and on a didgeridoo where it sounded pretty darn good. On the snare the cage is better for the drummer to smack than a regular 57. Still rather the 57 if using Shure mics.

Members Mogwix
Snare drums, horns, sax. Too bright for guitar cabs and vocals IMO.

Members B. Adams
I have 6 of them, and I use them primarily on snare and saxes. Not really anything else though. It's usually my first choice on snare. As for horns, I prefer other mics on trumpets and trombones, but B57's are great on saxes and the occasional French horn or other oddball horns. Members Leftcoast123
Snare for sound versus a 57 or for the greater survivability of a stick thwack? I'm guilty of taking the grill and capsule off of one with a misplaced shot in 99 I think. Wasn't pretty.

I would've thought the grille a little tougher than that, freak accident maybe? My ATM-650 has been whacked a few times but it didn't even scuff the paint. Members Leftcoast123
My apologies. A regular 57 not a B.

Members W. M. Hellinger
Depends on the version of "beta 57". I generally prefer the original version over the later model version... the original seems to me to be a better all-around vocal mic. Members Coaster
my beta 57 doesnt see much if any use these last couple years. sounds good on DULL LIFELESS snare, doesnt sound good on normal snare. sounds good on around 1/3 of female vocals and around 1/8 of tenor male vocals. doesnt sound good on guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordian, toms, timbales, etc neat looking but not very usefull to me. i'd trade it for a rode nt1000 or a cad m177 or m179
