I don't really feel like I'm doing 'better' than anyone else. I mean, when I pass a construction site, part of me knows it's hard labor in the broiling sun. But another part of me knows I probably won't see them sun again until lunch. So its a trade off.

Mr. Twang, however, he can afford to just buy himself a new sun with all that capitol he steals from third world nations all day long.

I don't think anyone is begrudging the guy his right to live however he chooses. But Blaghaus is right -- it was his patronising rationalization that's miffed a few of us.

I just think it's kind of ironic that the guy doesn't want to be judged for living his life the way he wants, but then he comes in here and judges anyone who doesn't share in his lifestyle and personal freedoms as having sold out to the man.

i agree with you guys too, don't get me wrong....
being a {censored}in cripple for over a {censored}in decade, an ex-con, a laborer and all kindsa {censored} in the past, i can dig what ya mean, and goddammit, folks SHOULD be proud of their accomplishments...
school and work and {censored} ain't easy....
i can empathize tho, cuz i remember spending the winter of 81 in the back of a mercury capri hatchback ....not fun, and c-c-cold as hell.
we were living on three for a dollar hotdogs from xtramart.
she was working, nobody wanted to hire a freeky acid head guitar player....all i got was a gig every week or so, and we lived off what we could.
it wasn't easy.
but towing the line and getting your {censored} in one sock ain't easy, either...hell, it's hard as hell, but it's a differnt path, a differnt trip.
I don't think he made the comments about folks till they were breakin' his balls....he just needed somebody to
LISTEN.
the beautiful thing is there's a lot of catsd posting on this subject, and that show that despite ball breaking and {censored}, folks CARE....or they wouldn't be here.
i may be an old burnt-out hippy and all, but THAT, my brothers, is a beautiful thing.
I'm glad for those of you doing well...i truly am...
but i got compassion for the guys that life sux for.
sometimes a choice just ain't a choice, it's the devil or the deep blue sea.
i dunno how young DJ is, but i hope he can get his feet to carry him to a better trip than the horse lattitudes he got his ass stuck in now.
again, no offense meant to anyone....we all answer to "the MAN" in some way, whether we realize it or not.
peace and blessings to all.

Why not? Sounds like you have a decent job and a roof over your head. Success is nothing to be ashamed of. You went to college and worked hard.

Yeah, but there's a relative scale though. My dad, for instance, comes from a hellish background. He's the second oldest of 11 kids and had to drop out of 8th grade in order to work to feed his 9 younger siblings, because his dad was too drunk to get out of bed. So, the fact that he, with an 8th grade education, went on to have a career in military logistics, become a decorated veteran, retire from 20 years in the military, go back to school and earn a bachelor's degree (I'm not sure I could pass a college calculus class today, and I have two degrees, can't imagine doing it having never even learned algebra) and start a new career and then go on to become a purchasing manager for a world wide Zinc processing company, that seems like much more success than I've had, though technically speaking I have more formal education, and make more money.

To me, the failures are the ones who have no goals, and don't care. A few years after high school I went with a couple of friends to visit this guy we went to school with. He was a total winner in high school. Mr. Athletic scholar champion dude. We showed up to his house and he was laying on the couch in his underwear with empty malt liqour bottles, cigarette butts, and porn mags all over the floor. That dude is a failure. Or was last time I saw him.

You totally lost me there, dude. I have no idea what that means.

lol.

And is your name really Jimi, spelled j-i-m-i? Like is that on your birth certificate? Not that it matters, I'm just curious if it's a pseudonym or if someone named their kid after "the" Jimi.

Well, {censored} me. I just had this peice written, and the page reset and wiped it out.

Screw it.

For you out there in Cubicle-ville, slag me all you want, ask for how 'truthful' I am (if I gave you all the details, you'd say I was longwinded and wouldn't read it anyway - and just how truthful are you, anyway? A good question that should be asked regularly...). But remember this: you go and contribute to all of the evils of modern society all you want, (and you are) and reap the benefits. You just remember, though, that when you buy that guitar, get that tattoo, customize your car, drool over a motorcycle, you're slumming - trying to get back the grit that you left behind some odd years ago. I think it's funny how white guys will be in awe of these poor, down and out musicians from back when, and then when they see someone doing that {censored} today - musician or not, but just having to go through that stuff in life - they're just like 'ha! loser!' and then go back to practicing their blues licks, working on their hot rod, building their harley, reading about some adventure by some person, whatever. Why do these things command such high prices today? Because they remind you of what you've left behind, which you never had the courage to pursue because the safe path is all you dared venture upon. Buy all of that stuff you want, doesn't change a thing. And remember - you can have all of the money in the world and still die like a dog in the street.

I would again like to thank those that get what I'm talking about and offered a little encouragement, rather than just look for a way to make yourself feel superior to someone else. If anyone had paid attention (gee, how many times did I have to explain that I was on the web at the library?), I never said I was doing this because it was the cool thing to do, because I wanted to do it, or that I intended on staying this way - as a matter of fact, most of the time, when this happens it's like three months. However, life goes on in that three months. I'm supposed to eat ramen noodles in an apartment for a year to replace the gear I sold because I couldn't tough out my situation awhile, or should I just hold onto what I have and save up for a few weeks? Gee...

Many just don't understand the act of striving for something that you may never achieve, but needed to try anyway. Maybe I'll be 'successful', maybe I won't - doesn't matter, I'll go to my grave knowing that I tried, goddammit. What's a high-def, an SUV, a house, whatever, compared to that? I'm supposed to derail my life's work for a handful of consumer trinkets?

One can have knowledge but understand nothing:
One can have huge amounts of money and be spiritually bankrupt:
A glass house is a magnet for flying rocks.

Thanks again for anyone who had the heart to say a few words of good will, and may your kindness be repaid a hundred fold. Glad to see that not everyone is hypnotized by what the TV tells them to believe. But as for defending myself any further on this thread, {censored} man, I've got {censored} to do... ;)

I leave you with these words:

Di

I know I said I wouldn't post in this thread anymore.

But writing as a poor, down and out musician from right {censored}ing now, and as a white guy --

Finances aside, you're full of {censored}.

At this point I just wish he'd call people by name. I'm not sure if he's talking about me or not, since I simultaneously fit all of his generalities and none of them at the same time.

I work in a cubicle, but I don't own a high-def or an SUV. I don't have tattoos or give a {censored} about Harleys. But I do own a house.

Well I don't think anyone particularly enjoys paying their rent or mortgage or whatever, but that's a part of life in a civilized society such as ours. It's called being an adult and accepting responsibility, first and foremost to yourself.

Since you're in this position only partially because of circumstance and largely because you've somehow convinced yourself that you're somehow living a better life this way, it's sort of hard to have any sympathy for you. I don't think that's what you're really asking for, but this entire thread smacks of a desperate plea for attention.

I really hope that you get some help and that you get your situation sorted out soon.

I should add that I have never really enjoyed wiping my ass. I wonder if freeing myself of the bonds of hygine is a better way to live?

He's just generalizing everything and lumping us all in with his so-called oppressors. Just another way to rationalize his plight (everyone is against me).

{censored}, I don't own an SUV, hi-def, Harley, etc., or work in a cube for that matter, but I'm still pretty sure he's talking about me (i.e., contributing to the evils of modern society, etc.). Still, I'm not losing any sleep over it. He seems kind of ignorant.

You have obviously chosen the path you're on. You choose not to work and have nice things and that's your perogative. However, don't you dare try to justify your meager existance by chastising mine. Here's a tip for you. Take the money you're spending on weed and BUY A {censored}ING HAM SANDWICH!!

LOL.....

you can call me "Pink" if you prefer to, lol....I Predate Jimi Hendrix going by the name Jimi, it's something tagged on to me over the years by other folks....same with pink....lol....photon, too...one day someone combined the three....

"pink, jimi, photon, what do i call ya?????"

and the rest is history...

the GIVEN name is James Brien Pocius, lol....

now as for this:

sometimes a choice just ain't a choice,

like choosing between John Kerry or George Bush...either way ya can't really win

it's the devil or the deep blue sea.

seeabove

i dunno how young DJ is, but i hope he can get his feet to carry him to a better trip than the horse lattitudes he got his ass stuck in now.

"Horse Lattitudes " refers to a strip of ocean called the Sargasso Sea....legend has it that to lighten their ships to avoid becoming stucj in the copius sea weeds there they would dump their horses over board...Jim Morrisson wrote a poem with that title..."when the still seas conspire in armour

and it's sullen and aborted currents breed tiny monsters,

true sailing is dead!....bla bla bla....

so what i'm saying is, in english, that if he picks his own ass up and moves on, i think he'll find a better station in his life than being homeless in NYC with winter approaching, understand?

Life DOES suck, and yes, we all gotta die, but ya don't have to CHOOSE to make your life suck. you can CHOOSE to get on with it, and i hope he does.

Here are some things that I think should be non-controversial:

1. All things being equal, having money is better than not having money.
2. Having a steady supply of food, clothing and shelter is a good thing.
3. Having money will not necessarily make you happy.
4. Not having money will not help you be any happier.
5. People with money are not inherently better people than people without.
7. People without money are not inherently better people than people with.
8. Not having money is not a prerequisite to making good art.
9. When you have a family, taking care of them should be your number one priority. This ordinarily involves making money.

I find it hilarious that we're evil doers while he's going to buy a Schick Quattro. {censored}ing Schick. Owned by pharmecutical conglomerate Pfizer that bought out Warner Lambert.

He's probably going to buy it at Wal-Mart.
