Opinions: Les Paul guitar for 500-600?

Best LP I ever played was a lawsuit. White Randy Rhoads signature model made by "Burny." 2nd best I ever played was an Epiphone Les Paul Custom (this particular one was a tobacco burst model--you just have to play a bunch to find a really nice one).

Maybe just find one with great acoustic tone and build quality and spring for upgraded pickups to suit your taste. I like the dirty, medium-output, old-school sound of Seth Lovers; other folks might prefer something clearer and/or louder sounding.

I've got a black 1998 Gibson LP Special on Ebay right now that's in great shape if you're interested. No reserve. It's gonna sell, and probably in your price range or lower.

Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany Electric Guitar on MF for 750 new.

Gibson Faded SG Special Electric Guitar on MF for 580 new. I prefer the SG anyday over LPs. I just dont like LP's... I almost want this SG for myself :)

I've always been curious as to how good the Agile guitars are... but I stand by this saying: "You get what you pay for"

I'd stay playing your squire or whatever it is and get the Faded LP or SG when you have the money.

so if one pays say $1100 for a guitar, they should get $1100 worth of guitar, right? if one gets what one pays for?

but then where exactly does the money for all that other crap come from? stuff like say, paying for NAMM booths (union labor, trucking companies)/etc and all the shmoozing (at hotel bar&food&service rates), print media, celebrity endorsement, store schwag, prime time tv adverts, corporate culture (for the few at the top, Harvard business school grads do not come cheap) --- how exactly does that get paid for, if what you pay for the guitar goes strictly into the guitar? cuz you get what you pay for??

i dont get it.

do Eliteists use Gibby PUps?

I think they sound excellent. Alnico 2 magnets. Below is from the Elitist website. I love my Les Paul Standard Plus, SG and Casino - and I have tried LOTS of pickups.

Jack

All Elite instruments are equipped with custom-would pickups "Made in the USA" exclusively for Epiphone by Gibson Musical Instruments and are made with such uncompromising features as:

High Quality Cover Materials - All pickup covers use quality German silver with vintage Nickel or real 24K Gold finish.

Vintage Two-Conductor Wiring - Authentic two-conductor wiring with "braided" outer shielding for true vintage look and tone.

Full Wax Potting - Every pickup is potted in a special wax bath to insure that microphonic feedback due to internal vibration is elimated. All covered models receive a second wax bath to further protect the pickup.

Specially Made Magnets - All magnets are magnetized by Gibson to ensure the total reliability of each magnet's performance. Critical magnetic flux is maintained for the perfect combination of output without sacrificing tonal characteristics.

You know, call me crazy, but I am not a PRS fan. I think they are beautiful and sound great, but they don't feel right to me.

i could see that. i feel the same way about the doublecuts. they seems too much like a super strat to me. but the singlecuts (to me) feel like a slightly smaller and much lighter les paul. :)
