"I don't want my children coming to me and asking... why we have to wait in line for toilet paper."

:freak:

I guess she gets her toilet paper through mail order.
I have to wait in line at the grocery store.
:idk:

Love it.

You guys really feel socialism'd & communism'd and call it becoming a european country because your government plans on making your health care system actually work? The is not one country in Europe that stands for communism and socialism anymore and health care is hardly a topic in our society because hardly anyone has to struggle paying for medical treatment. I heard so many stories about guys getting cancer and can't afford to pay $10,000s for their treatment. Before I saw the charity actions for friends going on here, I never knew there was such thing elsewhere.

You can talk a lot about Michael Moore, but was his picture of the US health system so wrong he showed in "Sicko"?

Just saying my spontansious thoughts, but you guys should be thankfull that someone tries to adapt a care system for you that proved to work.

Now tear me up.

I won't tear you up, because you're right. :)

My problem with this whole thing is the total bait and switch nature of the bill. It's being hailed as one thing but if you actually read it it's something completely different.

Not only that, but there's been absolutely no debate or analysis on what the best course of action is to actually accomplish the mission which has so far been stated as 1) cutting costs, and 2) insuring the un-insured.

What the government is currently doing is equivalent to knocking your house down and forcing you to build a new one because you violated your CC&R's.

The last numbers I saw show that about 60% of the voters are against the proposal. That would make the opposition at least *somewhat* bipartisan. But yeah, I wish they'd shut up with the stupid insults and yelling and actually state why they are for or against the thing. We'd all get a lot farther and be better off.

I don't honestly think both sides are that far apart on the issue of health care if they would stop playing the party lines and just talk about the issues. I'm quite sure that everyone thinks that all citizens should have access to health care that we can somehow afford. I think most would agree that big pharmacy and insurance play a big role in driving up the cost, along with frivolous lawsuits. We have lost 2 or 3 doctors in the small community I live in because of what it costs for them to buy insurance for their practice. I don't think anyone would say that's a good thing. As a conservative I don't really care who controls the health care as long as coverage is fair and people can afford it. I think we absolutely need to take care of those who cannot work. I don't think we should give health care to those who REFUSE to work. I can name 4 or 5 welfare moms in my community, they live in housing, and sit around and push out babies by 4 or 5 different fathers. They receive a government check for each one of those kids every month, along with food stamps for each kid per month, and their housing is based on earnings, so they basically have housing for free. These are not people who cannot work, these are people who abuse the system. I absolutely agree we should take care of those kids, because they cannot help what they were born into, but those moms OUGHT to have some motivation, some PUSH, to get them into the workforce, and to stop abusing the system. People who are here illegally should not get health care for free, although I would not be opposed to some sort of a work program for those who come here as migrant workers in order for them to be able to pay a bit in and get health care too. Most of them are good people, we have a migrant camp about half an hour from here, so I see a good number of these people come in my door to buy instrument supplies like reeds and strings and such. Nice folks just trying to better themselves. If they want to participate, I say make it easier for them to do so, and let them. It doesn't have to be free, make them pay in a bit like the rest of us, but don't make them jump through all the hoops like someone who is trying to become a citizen would have to do.

But yeah, most would rather toss insults instead of ideas, you're correct. I don't think they are all rednecks, although it could be argued that their behavior certainly makes them seem so.

Your first paragraph, I somewhat agree with. I think many of the legislators simply haven't read it because of it's size. And you're correct, there's a lot different in there in many places than what's being "advertised".

I think your second paragraph is spot on. People would rather insult than discuss. It's sad. And anti-productive.

You see, the problem is that even at the governmental level there's no open debate and no bipartisanship.

All the dealing is happening behind closed doors with the lobbyists which is typical but goes 180deg. from what Obama promised when he was running. Nobody with an ® after their name is being invited to take part it drafting the legislation because the prevailing attitude in congress is "We don't need you to pass it anyway so shut up" or some variation of that. It's going to backlash horribly on the democrats (of which I am one) because people are getting pissed at the arrogance with which they're pushing things through that the people don't want any part of.

this....

i think conservatives are just fed up with the stupid party games. why cant they just talk about this and actually take the time to work on a program that satisfys everyones needs and isnt going to be a train wreck. it seems to me that the dems just want to pass this healthcare reform to say they actually changed something. the problem with that is, i dont think they are taking the time to get other peoples opinions and really work out all the kinks which will result in a major disaster. why cant they just try a small scale test of the system and see how it works instead of implementing it for the whole country and screwing everything up? i dont know much about politics but as someone who watches the news everyday and reads the articles thats what it seems like to me... im not trying to bash anyone its just an observation.

We've tried small scale tests. Here in Oregon it's called the "Oregon Health Plan" and every year it goes broke and either has to start cutting benefits or turning people away.

There's a bunch of ways to cover people who are uninsured and there's a bunch of ways to cut costs and none of them are being talked about. That's what has me pissed off.

I'm one of those people that's into solving problems. What I see going on is going to create exponentially more complicated issues without solving the problems outlined by the administration of 1) cutting costs and 2) covering the uninsured.

i could be wrong, but wouldn't conservatives by their very definition not want any part of something that would change the system

You can't pigeonhole people like that. People aren't "Liberal" or "Conservative" they typically fall somewhere in between on any given issue.

This is being pitched is a "Liberal" and "Conservative" issue but it's really not. People who are standing up at these town hall meetings are just folks who are fed up with seeing their tax dollars spent on crazy {censored} and want some accountability from their elected officials. That's usually the case.

I'm super liberal on most social issues but tend to be more fiscally conservative.
