Members Balthazar Munoz
I am talking epecifically about a fuzzface. Mostly to try and cop Hendrix or Gilmour.Do you put the amp on clean, and then run the fuzzface balls out, or do you dial in some gain on the amp, and then mix judiciously with Fuzz? Members neoflox
Mostly the later one. Depends on how well you amp gain plays along with fuzz. Just try and trust your ears.
Members V
I'd put the amp close to breakup or right at the edge of breakup and then adjust the fuzz pedal from there. Also play with your guitar's volume knob. Sometimes fuzzes need to have the volume rolled off a bit to sound their best.
Members kpd78
I agree with Neo and V; a little breakup on the amp often helps. I'd put the amp close to breakup or right at the edge of breakup and then adjust the fuzz pedal from there. Also play with your guitar's volume knob. Sometimes fuzzes need to have the volume rolled off a bit to sound their best. That's the point I was going to make.
Members H.P. Lovecraft
Clean amp, crank the Fuzz knob and then back it off just a hair...usually around the teardrop. Volume to taste.

Members imbuedblue
hendrix: cranked ampgilmore: clean amp i would guess This. Also, I dimly recall reading that Hendrix ran his Fuzz Faces with the volume and fuzz controls on full, controlling the gain with his guitar volume, while Gilmour ran his Fuzz Faces with the fuzz control dimed and the volume control set around unity, still controlling the gain with his guitar's volume knob. Members ledfloyd
Jimmy Page used his Tone Bender more as a booster. The "fuzz" dial was pretty low (less than 1/2 way) and the volume was up well above unity.
