OT: Anyone see the Nintendo Wii stuff?

I just saw a video of it in action over at CNET.com ... oh man, it does seem a lot cooler than I thought it was gonna be. I never bought a GameCube, but it seems like once again, they're going in a different direction than both Microsoft and Sony. Whether that's a good thing or not, I'm not sure.. but the controller does seem extremely cool though.

If all you've seen is the CNET video than you missed out on a whole bunch of videos I'll post if I can. I am very excited. I skipped last generation, but I'll be preordering a Wii.

I very much doubt they can eliminate all the lag between controller movements and the system, and the huge movements they are portraying are ridiculous, since that would put the controller out of the "view" of the system and thus be {censored}ed up.

I completely disagree. I think Red Steel may use it too much, but if you watch the people playing Zelda, it seems perfectly suitable and well balanced. THere are videos of a girl playing the new Mario game and she picks is up no problem, again, using the remote to add to things not taking away. And check out the control scheme for Madden 07. That is sweet, period.

haha, you have a very limited knowledge on technology my friend.

and besides, what's wrong with trying new things - i'm willing to bet that this will revolutionize console gaming - much like the nintendo ds, everyone cursed it at first, but once they tried it, they loved it.

That does look pretty badass for Madden, but playing some of those games is going to make you look like an idiot standing there waving the controller around all the time. :freak:

Nintendo didnt really fous on making the most powerful system but on making it more enjoyble to play. I guess its suppsoed to be 2-3 times more poweful then a gamecube.

Actually, one review I read, and I am not sure where, mentioned that the Nintendo execs over used the movement and that flicking the controller worked just as well, you dont need to wildly move your arms.

Plus, the sensor is separate from the TV and has a range of 5m-10m depending on how much you move the remote.

:D

considering zelda was made for the gamecube and its actaully gonna be released for the gamecube too i dont think it had anythgin to do with the hardware.

im pretty sure it uses RF, so it doesnt really matter where you are. I can turn my Xbox 360 on from down the street with a touch of a button because it uses RF.

the ps3 is lame and over priced. did really have a solid line up that justifies the price. $599 + tax for the one that is worth buying (60gb hdd and HDMI port). i have a feeling this will be the next Dreamcast.

A few points to make:
1) It's more likely the video running as flash on a webpage is shotty. The E3 direct download of the videos from the press site basically confirms that as there are no hiccups in that video.
2)Zelda is being released simultaneously for Wii and GC so no surprise it looks pretty much the same.
3) The dev kits have been basically GameCubes, i.e., the Wii wasnt/isnt finalized enough for developers to use and so there is still more graphical optimization to be done, however, this shows that the actualy development tools are similar from GC to Wii making it easier and cheaper for third parties to make games, hopefully translating to far greater 3rd party support than Nintendo had in the past.
4)I use my PC for realistic graphics and always will, I use consoles for fun.

want it.

as i understand it, you set up to reciever points opposite each of each other, so i dont think direct line of sight is a big factor. not an expert, but apparently it works as stated so my only advice for people is to read up a little if they're interested in it since I know many aren't fond of the concept.
