I (admittedly) don't get it.. Im not sure what your generation is Shmoe, Im in my 40's and While I dont listen to stuff like this on a regular basis, I definitely listen to things like it often enough. This kid has the benefit of youth and has his whole life ahead of him to gain some of the finer points of playing like Vibrato and bends that separate the men from the boys. There are players out there that have alot more years under their belts and cant get the technique down so they stick to the slowhand way of things which is more than OK. Chops are tools to accomplish whatever it is that you want to do musically. Obviously, some forms of music are more technically demanding. If you dont dig what hes doing, thats great but dont write him off because this isnt your thing. Contrary to what other may say, its possible to have lightning fast passages that are full of feeling and passion. Id have been as equally impressed if he played all of Voodoo Child. the fact that such a young player takes the initiative to learn a challenging piece( Even if he doesnt do it perfectly) shows a lot of promise and I commend him for it...Give him time, As he develops his ear and ability, Its only natural that he'll begin to appreciate the subtle nuances that make good musicians into great musicians,,,KageKage

I'm 46...my only point I suppose....is: Michael Angelo is AMAZING...his chops are UNREAL...he is a MASTER at what he does...and......nobody and I mean NOBODY outside of a handful of guitarist kooks (like us...) knows about him or even cares...enter this kid....he wants to be like THAT? my question is....why? practice and PRACTICE...and PRACTICE etc...and then, even IF he gets to THAT level... get panned by the bulk of people that would give you a listen?....seems 'futile' to me....I guess if HE likes it, then I am definitely cool with that...seems like he is in store for a bunch of frustration if he has aspirations beyond impressing a bunch of obscure guitar fanatics...your average listenner will stick him in a 'freak' box and walk on.... Personally , I think that the kid should play what he wants as opposed to what others want, that what I do...

Just a few questions that might make you look in a different direction. How do you know what this kid will sound like in the future? How do you know what type of music he will be playing in a year or 5 years? You don't ,so to lable his whole future is pretty silly doncha think?I know of a lot of guys who practiced like this kid when they were younger and they have all moved on from shred. Just saying and nothing personal!~R~
