Well, the at7's have less gain than the ax7's and the 7025 are supposed to be equal to the ax7's.

The 12at7's work pretty well in the phase inverter slot. When I tried a JAN Philips 12at7 in my Cobra it changed the character of the amp. It didn't sound as aggressive anymore, more of a rock than a metal amp. This was a great way to get better mid-gain tones out of it. It didn't sound as organic as the 12ax7, though.

You can't go wrong with the Tung-sol reissues. Fat and bright sounding tubes.

which tube slot did you try the 12at7 in your Cobra? I have run a 12at7 in the PI in my Cobra for some time and it's not a radical difference.
