Here's some pics of a few I did recently if you want to take a look.

The 5e3 in tweed has a Cannabis Rex in it now, really nice for this circuit.

Like Tommy said, "The quality of the amp depends on the skill of the person building it." They come out better if you have the proper tools.

I've built a few now. As the guys have said, the quality is down to the builder (and the circuit he's building). Arguably the very best amps are hand built - the rest is up the you.


When you talk of quality, do you mean excellence of construction or tone?

Very nice and neat wiring. My wiring is just not that nice but I've not had many returns. I tend to run my wires the shortest route and then it gets a bit sloppy looking.

I have made a few... I strongly advise going for a kit as a first build. Follow the layouts and after you get it working with no extra noise, you can tweak it. High gain circuits can be really pain in the butt to get working properly without oscillations etc.

 

For me, the hardest part seems to be chassis building, as I'm a complete klutz in woodworking and have really no tools for it...
