Members bmast160
whats the recommendation on setting amp gain and volume... i dont want an overdriven tone... i've heard that its best to set the gain at the highest possible setting(without overdriving the amp) to get the clearest tone and to then set the amp's master volume...setting the gain lower than this will yield a duller tone(almost like a loss of tone)...is this true? Members Weathered
No. Set the gain and MV where they sound best to you.

Members Syn Harvest
Heres how i do it. If you want saturation keep the gain high and MV low. If you want a tight mid gain percussive attacky sound, keep the gain minimal and the volume high

Members the_bleeding
turn all the knobs to 10 and hope for the best. works for me. The only knobs you might want to keep under 10 are presence and master.

Members Herald of Light
works for me. The only knobs you might want to keep under 10 are presence and master. And bass. I've never heard an amp that sounded its best with the bass completely maxed. I don't care what kind it was.
Members the_bleeding
And bass. I've never heard an amp that sounded its best with the bass completely maxed. I don't care what kind it was. mine didd back when i was running it through my 1960a. Now with the mesa std, i have it around half. but, if you do max your EQ, you will notice that it isnt as muddy as you think it would be. It actually sounded great on my marshall. When you max it, your whole tone really depends on the tone stack and the tewbs. Basically gets you closer to what the tubes would sound like... except for the fact that the tonestack murders the mids.
