Members type2guy
Is it safe to run a 1971 Marshall Super Lead with 2 of the power tubes pulled? The outside two tubes...right? I know I have to change my ohms from 16 to 8. Just wondering if it's actually an OK thing to do. Not sure I want to run it that way. Would like to try it though and see how it changes the sound. Members grumphh
I don't know if it is safe, but one of the tubes in my '71 Superbass redplated (at almost max volume) and took out a fuse. I removed the two inner tubes and play it (at looooow volume) on the 8 ohm setting into a 16 ohm cab. So far it hasn't blown on me...
Members Angry Grimace
It won't really make a difference, but you CAN. I personally wouldn't just to be safe; that's a relatively valuable amp.
Members matterday
Making an amp go from 100 watt to 50 watt isn't really going to make a big difference in volume. It is best to leave the amp the way it is and have it run the way it was meant to.
