  1. I'm trying to put an MXR six band EQ back in service. Can anyone tell me how to wire these four wires to 9v battery and input output jacks?
  2. "phil collen" model. Got one?
  3. I bought an Alnico V Fat MINI HUMBUCKER from 'em to put in an old '64 Melody Maker. I get compliments on the tone of that guitar from everyone that hears it. The pickup worked real well with the guitar.
  4. I remember seeing one of these back in the 80's. Anyone know anything bout 'em? Model or name? What'd they sound like?
  5. The sound was a natural progression from "cheap sunglasses" on Deguello, then the El Loco album. El Loco to Eliminator isn't a stretch. Also, MTV was still real new in '83 and hairbands hadn't taken it over yet. It was still fairly eclectic. Def Leppard had the pyromania videos around the same time. So ZZ top wasn't "jumping on the hair band wagon".
  6. No. No local techs. I can drain the caps and take all safety precautions. I've done some basic amp work. I just don't fully understand EVERYTHING. I can change a component though. Not a big deal. Have done it before.
  7. I can totally do the soldering job. Any help on which one to get?
  8. yeah, I'm gonna do it myself. Just need to find a replacement one to order. I'm guessing Mouser is the place to go. I just wanna get a better one for a replacement that hopefully won't fail again. That's kind where I need help. Don't know which one to order. Any help? http://www.mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?FS=TRUE&Ntt=*bridge*+*rectifier*&Ne=688737&N=4932236+4294738554+1323038&Ntx=mode%2bmatchall&Ns=P_PART+NUMBER%7c0%7c%7cP_SField&OriginalKeyword=bridge+rectifier&Ntk=Mouser_Wildcards
  9. Looks like I need to replace the bridge rectifier....maybe with a beefier one that won't fail when heated. Any suggestions what would be good and best place to order? Thanks a ton.
  10. Can you reccomend a tech that I could ship it to?
  11. Got a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X. It fires up, plays, then after it warms up the sound fades out. the first three preamp tubes fade out...all other stay lit. After it cools or something for a minute, the light back up and sound comes back. It continues to do this. I've swapped out all tubes and it still does the same thing. Fuses are not blown. Any idea? No techs in the area.
  12. OK. Read a little bout the KT77's. Sound like something I might like. I usually am an el34 guy....but think the KT77's might be a good fit for me and this particular model marshall. I TOTALLY dig the sound the SL-X has. Can't wait to hear it with some fresh tubes.
  13. Just got a 50watt Marshall JCM 900 SL-X. It's a 5881 power tube model. It's currently got marshall ecc83 pre-amp tubes and GT-6L6S power tubes. The power tubes need to be replaced. I think one of 'em is bad. Thought I'd go ahead and retube the whole thing. So....what pre-amp and power tubes would be a good choice? KT-88's? 5881's? EL-34's? Which 12AX7's would be good? Thanks for suggestions and help.
  14. Is it safe to run a 1971 Marshall Super Lead with 2 of the power tubes pulled? The outside two tubes...right? I know I have to change my ohms from 16 to 8. Just wondering if it's actually an OK thing to do. Not sure I want to run it that way. Would like to try it though and see how it changes the sound.
  15. Well, I actually live in San Angelo, TX...which is 3.5 hours from Austin. I looked up info on the master volume mod on the net and just decided to do it myself. Did the PPIMV. Cost me $5 for the parts. Seems to have worked great. Will be able to practice with the (new to me) '71 Marshall now. Gonna be fun!!! p.s. Before the mod, I played the amp for maybe 6 minutes and my ears rang for over an hour afterwards. And I LIKE loud guitars!!!
  16. can you email me a copy of that schematic?
  17. I called the parts department today and they said they don't have 'em at all. Didn't have the schematic either. It's a 7-pin connector. There are other peavey pedals with that connector, but they don't work. The footswitch is the only way to be able to switch and use the CRUNCH channel. It also lets you switch to clean and turn on the reverb. Don't care much about those. Want that crunch channel though. The transtube pedal looks the same. Peavey sells those. I've heard it can be rewired to work with the ultra and triumph. Trying to get the info. May just try and buy one and experiment. If anyone has or knows the info on doing this, please post it.
  18. I'm in the same boat and can't seem to find a solution. I emailed Peavey and they said they didn't have a schematic for the pedal! There's got to be a DIY solution out there. I find lots of people online looking for this footswitch.
  19. Want to add a master volume to a '71 marshall. I'm out in west texas, but could drive to Austin. Who's a good amp tech there to get this work done?
  20. There's one of these at a pawn shop here for around $200. I was thinking of snagging it if the price goes down again. So....what does it sound like so far?
  21. helping out in tattoo shops and having kids come in and want a tribal band is the the best occurance. to watch the looks on artists faces as some roid raging jock asks fo a tribal tattoo is priceless. not to mention the amount of greenbacks you can take them for. I watched a kid get practically a whole leg sleeve(outline and some shading)in a singel 5 or 6 hour sitting down at the shore. he was charged roughly $400. turned around some frat dude comes in looking to get a tribal band. he was charged $700. and he had no problem paying it. i have a big portion of my lower leg and i've only put down $400 so far. on top of that put an asian symbol in front of anyone that truly knows how to write and read in that language and youll be surprised how many of them dont actually say what the person thinks it does. I saw one girl with a chinese symbol. she claimed it was for "love". well at a party another girl showed up spouting off the exact same thing but with an entirely different symbol. we called a friend over and he took one look at it and said the one girls was correct but the other girl had some nonsense liek chicken on her neck and as far as the lighthouse and the flower meaning i should have a penis and a vagina....tattoos all have meanings in different cultures or in your own head. it's all how you look at "your own" tattoos I always love how people talk sh*t about OTHER tattoos. Dude....you've got a freakin' lighthouse and a flower on your body!!!! No need to be talking down about people that want want tribal bands or asian crap even if it's just because it looks cool. It's all ink and it's all personal. Just sayin'.
  22. In the late 80's early 90's I owned a 70's Marshall that was modded by him. I bought it 'cause I THOUGHT it was cool. After few months I couldn't stand the thing. Sounded thin and fizzy. Like a bunch of bees. I sold it to a friend and he kept it for many many years. I talked to him 10 years later and he said that all the mods fell apart pretty quick and he didn't use those knobs anymore. This head was used a little bit on the debut album by a band called Dangerous Toys. Very 80's sounding head.....not in a good way. My stock '73 Marshall at the time smoked that stupid Lee Jackson modded head. Just my opinion.
