i recently played through a Dual Reverb (think it was set to 25W, otherwise it was 50), had it cranked pretty loud and jammed for 3 hours with a drummer and a bass player. played through a beat to hell marshall cab that was probably all stock. don't recall the details on it.

i thought it sounded righteous with my Les Paul. didn't sound as good with my strat, but i think that's because i didn't change any of the settings when i plugged the strat in....it wasn't my amp so i didn't touch anything other than volume and the foot switch. plus i knew i'd plug the Paul back in and didn't want to mess with a real good thing.

i tried to buy the head but the owner didn't want to sell it. i still want one.

didn't sound buzzy at all to me. it had decent bottom end, fantastic crunch, and really complemented the Paul

The SL-X. It's actually two of the same channel, so one can be a solo boost of the other.

The only one with two channels is the Dual Reverb. The Mark III Hi-Gain Master Volume (the 2100 and 2500) has one channel too, but it does have two master volumes that you can set independently and move between via footswitch.

The move to the 900 hasn't gone all the way yet though. You'll see. Once the 800 market taps out entirely, it will begin on the SL-X starting to gain in value, and then suddenly the 2100s and then the 4100s.

Modded but hopefully it is easy to reverse:

Here's a 2205:

2205 or 2210, doesn't say, but the price is cheap:

Needs more info but an email could be sent:

The only one i ever really liked were the first 1 channel 50 watters (guess there's a 100w. version too but i never played it). MarkIII if i remember right? They have some of the warmth of the JCM800 1 channels, guess warm tone is all about simplicity, and a cool clean boost function, and a bit more gain as the 800's, but still cool break-up and clean. I'd certainly buy it if i stumbled upon it for the right price. Most underrated Marshall ever. I hate the 2 channel reverb and sl-x models. Brittle loose flubby sound that simply dissapears in a band situation.

Unorthodox settings aren't necessarily an indicator of bad design
, just look the the Mk IV. I agree that the 4100s are way too bright though.

Is there a bright cap mod for the 900s? It seems like that would solve a lot of problems

+1

Dial in tone with your ears, not your eyes. :cop:

Chalk that up to the transformers.

I would chalk it up the preamp, the 4100s get their gain from diodes and opamps. And before someone jumps in with the "O nOez yuo siad its teh SS? Everyone who uses a boost is the same!" just do a search and look up James Peters take on the design. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but its bound to affect the sound one way or another

This only applies to the dual reverbs though, the SLX and Mk III are all tube
