Members Stackabones
What has influenced you as a songwriter in the past ... or since the last FIT? * I haven't listened to them in years, but Jethro Tull was a group I constantly listened to when I started getting into listening to my own music as a teenager. One of the few bands that I've seen live twice (the other is Los Lobos). Recently learned that Ian Anderson is a great collector of parlor guitars, so that little bit of information has sent me back to JT. Members Etienne Rambert
I have a couple of nice ones this week. The waltz was the music of romance, par excellence. I think in our time, the Bossa Nova has become what the waltz once was. ZYhZVqODYsI And through the magic of mono, ae_ogriURVk Our romances became 'relationships' about the same time that stereo replaced mono.
Moderators Lee Knight Posted May 28, 2010 Moderators Share Posted May 28, 2010 What an original band with such a distinctive sound. Anderson's voice just says, "Tull". Nice pick. So I'm waiting on an appointment stuck in my car listening to Fresh Air on PBS. They review Tracy Thorn's latest. Remember Everything But the Girl? That's her. Middle aged. Mature... I suppose. Then they play this and I just think... wow. That's good. Who's next?Who's next?Always the ones the ones that you least expectThey seem so strongIt turned out she wanted more all alongAnd each time I hear who's to partI examine my heartSee how it standsWonder if it's still in safe hands Who's fled?Who's fled?Who's been caught out in somebody's bed?I should have guessedThat day that his phone wouldn't take your textHe was a charmerI wish him bad karmaOh, I know we shouldn't take sidesBut that one was his faultThis one is her faultNo one gets off without paying the rideAnd oh, the divorces! And oh, oh, ohThe honeymoon, the wedding ringOh, oh ohThe afternoon hand overs by the swings Oh yes, oh yesYour song seemed to look through a different lensYou're still so youngLoving's just as easy as it's begunNow there's kids to tendThe legal bizAnd custodyAnd oh, the divorces! And this one is differentAnd each one of course isAnd always the sameOh, the divorces! Who's next?Who's next?
Members Stackabones
I know the Shostakovich and love it. Wasn't that in Eyes Wide Shut? In fact, there is so much Shostakovich that I love! Truly amazing composer.

I think I'm on record as a fan of both EBTG as well as mature/adult songwriters, so count me in for this one.
Members rsadasiv
Might be the prospect of meeting up with my old College Radio DJ buddies at my 20th Reunion next weekend, but I've been listening to a lot of The Clash lately. Here's a great disco beat (the 4/5 rhythm guitar part could have been lifted from a Chic album) with lots of crazed hand percussion and vinyl scratching married to some nice political agitprop lyrics. And to follow up on another shared NPR/FIT moment, I listened to the new "Exile on Main Street" tracks on Rhapsody last week. "Plundered My Soul" is pretty good, but the rest of the tracks (while historically interesting) were not very compelling. I stand by the "Unreleased Decca Live Album - 1972" as the definitive mid-period Stones document.

Members light_without_heat
I recently began listening to Emiliana Torrini and I find her sound quite lovely. Her sound smacks of Bjork (both are from Iceland) but is definitely more accessible and decidely "poppy". I just love the changes in this song.
