Members guidedbyechoes
I have a vtm and it doesn't sound much like a jcm800 to me.
Members drewl
A Peavey Butcher IS a JCM800 with 6L6's and built very sturdy, shame they're ugly but that's the way it is. The Sovteks are good, just not as close in tone. I've built a few of the Weber kits that are nice but a Butcher would probably be cheaper.

Members Eric Hellstyle
We've got a Sovtek Mig 50 at our rehearsal room right now. It sounds great, I really need to play it more! the mig 50 is not a JCM 800 it's a 1959 Plexi without the extra inputs for jumping and 5881 tubes instead of EL34/6550

Members gutterking
I'm not exactly looking for a clone, I just wanted to give you fellers an idea of what I'm looking for.The Sovtek is looking like a winner. Can anyone point me in the direction of some bands who use it?Or any of the more obscure amps listed here, really.
Members .homewrecker.
If money were no issue id say quickrod, but since it is I think a laney aor or peavey butcher would be the best calls. Definitely the butcher. The other guitarist in my band plays one and it's pound for pound every bit as awesome as my 2203

Members MRscratch
but I don't want it to be a jcm800. Preferably this amp will be solid as a rock and not make me in a melodic/ambient influenced hardcore (but not really) setting. Which amp do I want? $$$ is an issue, for now. I'm looking at the Red Bear mk 60/120 and the Sovtek mig 50/60/100. Is there anywhere else I should look, or can anyone share some experience with either of these? why not a 800??? i mean, sounds like, but not a 800? just get a 800. Members NaptownChris
I have a MIG 100. I love it, but it's closer to a 900 than the 800. The Butcher isn't a bad idea, despite being fugly.

Members gutterking
Get the Butcher, bitch. This may happen if I can find a good deal, and preferably a clip or two. I've got some soul searching to do before I'm ready to buy an amp called the Butcher though.

Only pussies soul search, real men impulse buy, trick themselves into thinking it's a great thing that they did, play it for a few weeks, become less impressed with it, decide it isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, and sell it for a loss.
