Members Uncle_Milton
First off, you will need ear-bud style headphones for this, it doesn't work well without them. So, if you have some nearby, go get then or save this for later. http://www.noob.us/entertainment/amazing-digital-surround-sound-virtual-barbershop/ ******sciency content********* This is a process called a generalized head-related transfer functions, it's been around since about 1986 at it's earliest, and has been in development since then. The way this particular demo works is to capture a three dimensional auditory scene with small microphones placed in the ear canal of a subject. What this does is capture the transfer function performed on the sound waves by the pinna (the outer part of the ear). The pinna is primarily responsible for helping localize sound elevation, and to a lesser extent azimuth, while the stereo nature of ears does the most work for azimuth localization. In the future, once we better understand how to apply the transfer function directly to the signal, we'll be able to just alter the digital signal it's self without the actual recording process. Members OverDriven
There's a few of those out there. They sound best if you use a good quality set of the big "can" type studio headphones with isolation padding. And yeah...it's like surround sound on crack. Pretty amazing. Members colejustesen
I liked how he was walking in a circle, then all of a sudden he was right in you left ear (at the very end). It is a neat concept, we just got done talking about sensation and perception in my psychology class. So it really just helped set that concept in for me.
