Members Dolf
59/custom hybrid is the clear winner for me Alt 8 is the least usable to me, even over the over-the-top dimebucker I actually liked the EMTY blackout quite a bit too, but I just don't do actives. I'm assuming it'll lack touch-sensitivity and dynamics like just about every active ever
Members Pepi
Distortion my pick on that type of music. A lot of those pups are so close to each other that a tweak of the EQ would be all it would take.
Members hugbot
The distortion was great, really sounded like the archetypal sound for guys who like that whole bright clangy modern metal tone thing. I like JBs but it wasn't the best fit for that kind of music.
Members Cliff Fiscal
really cool vid. I think the guitar makes a difference in which pickup to choose. One may sound great in that guitar but crappy in another. I actually liked the Invader. the Aftermath sounded the best to me in the other one. Members jds22
Slightly OT. I really dug what he was playing. I'm not familiar with newer metal bands but would like to hear more like this. What bands or players should I check out?
Members draelyc
The JB and 59 custom were my faves. The Full Shred is a killer pick up also. I have two guitars with a Full Shred in them.Yeah. It's crazy, but after listening to this demo, I'm now thinking of taking the Distortion back out of my Hamer & putting the JB it came with originally back in. Members jenksdrummer
Well, this video sold me on what to replace the stock pickups in my Ibanez with. Distortion, and per Seymour Duncan, a STK-6 in the middle, and a Jazz in the neck. Also bought the Everything Axe 3-pup pack for my MIM strat. That should do it. Members dxxcel
I wish they had put chapters/markers/whatever that would allow quick jumping between clips. Still a great video/comparison.
Members FourT6and2
Distortion, Custom, and Gus G. Fire Blackouts sounded the best to me. Awesome find, thanks for sharing!
Members jenksdrummer
I'd get a '59 instead of the Jazz. I've got 59's in my Epi. Too thick. Jazz sounds like the ticket - clearer.

Ah, didn't read what guitar you were putting them in. I had a Dist/Jazz setup in two guitars and wished I had gone with a '59 neck.

Members linthat22
To bad that the samples weren't in standard E tuning on a 6 string guitar. That low farty style that's popular; to me; doesn't do a good job representing the pickups (just certain EQ ranges). I love my old Universe, but this spastic downtuned noodlery is just hideous as a demo to my ears. :/
Members Unstrung
I had the same experience with blackouts in my old 7 strings. Pretty much straight up death metal haha. I couldnt get them to do anything else haha. Which ones? Aren't there like six kinds of Blackout?
Members Spaced Out Ace
Which ones? Aren't there like six kinds of Blackout? Most likely the AHB-1 Blackouts, since I'm pretty sure those were the only 7 string models they had out at the time. Don't think they had an AHB-2 7 string Metal version out yet. Now they offer the EMTY model in a 7 string version.

Members colejustesen
Based off that style and that tuning, I would say the clear winner for me was the '59/Custom Hybrid, then the Distortion. As far as the actives go, the Gus G. was the best sounding to my ears. At first I was liking the Blackout Metal, but I started to hear an annoying overtone that really distracted me... So it is out (based on this video). On my list of yucks for this video: JB, Full Shred, Alternative 8 (mucho yucko), and EMTY Blackout I would have liked to have heard the Custom 5 and Custom/Custom though... EDIT: I was surprised by the Invader... I thought it would have been a lot muddier for that style and tuning... I liked it more than the majority Cole
Members colejustesen
On this not, hes got this comparison between duncans and BKP...I like the distortion the best out of these 4. Maybe I should try that pickup at some point. You haven't tried a Distortion yet? They are seriously pretty kick ass! You should try to score a used one and give it a spin! I loved the way it sounded in my LTD MH-1000, that being said I loved the Rio Grande Crunchbox more (not that the Distortion is lacking in any way, it seriously ) Cole

Members lealand987
the hybrid sounded great thereand the jb sounded kinda out of place with that much gain but definatly still a pickup i like for crunchy in your face(but not in your face w/ a pantera shirt on totally drunk kinda in your face like the dimebucker) sounds
Members PhxdB
They all sounded almost exactly alike. I thought they all mostly sounded good except the dimbucker and the alternative 8. I think the blackout metal sounded a little funky as well.
