I think my wife feels bad for me because I replaced my 2004 F150 4X4 Supercrew cab with a '94 Escort. I'm loving the Escort. I've been saving an average of $600 per month in lease payments, insurance and gas since December.

My Guild GAD 30R was apprx. $670. She would be bitching if I bought a more expensive guitar. The cool thing is that I have 3 months to pay it off without interest. :thu:

I knocked over a lemonade stand run by some kids down the street. Twice. WTF do those kids need money for, anyway? I figure I am doing them a favor, teaching them one of the most important lessons in business: If you sell lemonade on a street corner in Brooklyn, expect to get jacked by some dude who wants a guitar.

As for my wife, I told her I paid for the guitar with proceeds from lemonade sales.

As usual, I dig your style.

FYI - Esteban is hawking guitars on the Home Shopping Network right now. He's killing me. Even my wife was laughing.

My wife tolerates my guitars, she doesn't "understand" them, not by a long shot.

But, to answer your question more directly:

- We're at the point in our lives where we can afford a few indulgences.

- My first indulgence was a sailboat; the annual cost of paying and maintaining it for one year was rougly 1/2 the accumulated cost of all the guitars, amps and other musical equipment I currently own, 'nuff said.

- I play in the adult worship band at my church, and also lead the middle school band, in which my 12 year-old currently plays guitar and my 14 year-old formerly played drums, so I have a slender rationale for "needing" a few guitars. While each of these two older sons (I've got an 8 year-old too) were "forced" to study piano for a number of years, each got his inspiration to choose an instrument and really get into playing music via the aforementioned middle school band. Both have become pretty accomplished at their craft for their respective ages, so my wife sees the value of them having musical resources, opportunities and encouragement (guess who's the primary supplier of those three things?)

- Playing music is one of my main ways of countering stress in my life, especially the stress of having an unbearable work schedule from January to April (which schedule also provides enough income that my wife is able to be a stay-at-home mom, which is something she - and I - treasure for the sake of our three boys).

Your day will come Neil, be patient.

I hear ya, Don. First we need to get the kids taken care of. I also play to bleed off stress, but at this point nobody else in my house quite gets that.

Besides, thanks to my wife and you guys I'm pretty much set up just fine with gear. I really just wish I had more time to myself to use them.

mmmmmmm............NGD.............

.

It's a brand of Japanese spark plug. Very high quality and with the heat range identified by the number amidst the letters. Thus a BP8E would be hotter than a BP7E. Otherwise interchangeable. Why a discussion of those here, and what they have to do with guitars is anybody's guess.

My wife sort of tolerates this illness. Does not understand by a long shot. We are in our late 40's with no kids and decent incomes. Don't have a big boat or luxury cars. Though I have a couple motorcycles in the garage (has been the majority of our Summer activity the last few years). I tend to be obsessive about "hobbies", often losing interest over time.

Lately, I made a deal with my wife to learn to sell on eBay. I have now sold several vintage mechanical watches I collected over the the last several years (that interest eventually wained) and a couple guitars. This has become my GAS financing vehicle. I have also learned I can sell guitars I may tire of, rather than take the hit I have in the past by trading in at Elderly.

My wife is so supportive of this activity, she has agreed to be my eBay shipping department (I work long hours). She is also looking around the house to see what other possessions I have that can be sold. That scares me a bit.

Careful man. Next thing you know you'll be waking up in a cardboard box on the FedEx dock in Toledo.
